Headed to DL in March. We have stayed at the GCH for the past 3 yrs and LOVE it, however our 7 year old son thinks DLH may be more fun this year due to the new pool area. Can those of you who have experience with both weigh in? Thanks! :worship:

Your visit is probably after this, but I've been told the GCH pool area will be closed until March 9th, however I have other information that specifically says one pool will be closed at a time.

In any case I'd say DS will enjoy the DLH pools a lot more. It may be the right time to stay there if he is going to be spending a lot of time swimming.

Your son is absolutely right!
The Monorail Pool is so great. Adorable. There are other pools that surround it too, but it looks like the coolest slide ever.

I was just at GH pool, it's really nice. Very calm, serene and adult oriented. Your little guy wants to play! I vote DLH :thumbsup2

I was stayng at GCA last summer and walked to the DLH and the pool does look fun for little ones. The location of the GCA is o wonderful for going into the CA park but if you will be spending a lot of time by the pool it may be a fun change.

We also always stay at the GCH. It's the best there is, with friendly employees, convenient access to the theme parks, and great pools.

However this summer, we will be staying at the Disneyland Hotel. We're soooo excited to be staying there for the first time ever. With the cool retro looking pools, lobby, cool effects in the room, and Trader Sam's. Can't wait to spend a little time in there!!! I know I'll miss walking around the waterfalls and grottos, but they put a lot of things in that hotel to get excited about.

I love both hotels! I would vote with your son, though. It's nice to try something different, and DLH has lots of very cool things going for it that make it special. If you find that you still prefer GCH, then you'll know which one to book next time. I have trouble deciding which of the two hotels I prefer...sometimes one, sometimes the other. On my most recent trip to DLR, I stayed at PPH for the first time. Not a fan, but what I was going to tell you about our stay was that, since there isn't anything at PPH (whole pool/spa area was closed and there are no grounds), we walked over to DDT through either GCH or DLH. We found ourselves specifically targeting DLH almost every time! They have great dining options, a cool bar area, and more family-friendly prices. The outdoor areas are wonderful! There is a beautiful large outdoor fireplace now and Trader Sam's/Tangaroa Terrace are great. Your 7-year-old will love the waterslides and pool, I bet. You're also very close to good DTD dining options and entertainment as well as the monorail. I do prefer the rooms at DLH to those at GCH, too, and they are more kid-oriented. Goofy sometimes hangs out at DLH, or did before the renovation.

GCH is fabulous, but I would give DLH a try and see what you think. My kids love both but DLH was the definite favorite until this year (they're now 11 1/2 and almost 9).

Can I ask if you may use the pools at DLH and PP if you are staying at GC? I am not sure of the protocol? So no shouting at me!:confused3

When I stayed at the DLH back in August i was allowed to use the GCH pool.

I vote for DLH for this trip for you. Love the remodel and the pool area is so cool I wish I was a kid.

Like you, we've always stayed at GCH. However, when I went to book my trip in December, rates jumped over $600 for our stay at GCH from when I first checked to paying for the reservation (less than one week apart.) So, we decided to try DLH for the first time.

I was a bit wary about the walk, since it is soooo easy from GCH, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

I do like the theming of the DLH, plus it just seems like a brighter hotel overall. GCH has always seemed really dark to me.

We weren't able to play in the pool, but we had a pool view room. I know that my kids would have loved to play in the pool.

And you can't argue with the price. It is less expensive than the GCH. It may become our go-to hotel for now. (We actually have friends that live nearby, so we will be staying with them for many of our future visits.)

You can't go wrong with either one, but as a PP stated, might as well give it a try, so next time you'll know which one you prefer.

No. Resort/hotel pools are for the registered guests of the resort/hotel only. This is correct for DLR and WDW if you stay onsite there.

There are very special cases as the poster below experienced.

When I stayed at the DLH back in August i was allowed to use the GCH pool.

When this poster visted here resort the DLH has construction in its pool area.

The excpetions are when your hotel's amenities are not accessible because of closures usually due to rehabs or other reasons, you can use the other Hotel's amenities.
