GCH Villas vs. HoJo's

My sil just bought DVC and is going to look into a studio for us at the GCH Villas. She will charge us $800 for the points.

We currently have a reservation at HoJo's for just over $500 for the trip.

What would you do? Is it worth the money to switch if possible? What perks are there staying at the Villas that we wouldn't get at HoJo's? I don't even know if it is possible for GCH.

Also, I know I read somewhere that pools at DL were being renovated- which pools? and when will they be done?

Is this a serious question. You are comparing a mediocre hotel verse a suite in a very nice hotel. Just know the villas are at the back of the GCH and are not super close to the DL gate.

You will get Magic Morning on every night it's available, Tues, Thur, Sat and Sundays. You can use the special entrance to DCA to enter 30 minutes early. If it's this summer that also means early access to the Little Mermaid attraction.


A pool at the Disneyland Hotel is left to be renovated.

How many nights is this stay and what would the point useage be? DVC points rent for an average of $10 per point..also, if the money is too much to handle and you like HoJo you might be just as happy there. Some people really don't like the VGC (as should be obvious I love the place) If you can afford it and want to stay in what I consider to be the best place to experience Disneyland, then I'd jump at it.

I'd look also at the money being spent........do you want to spend it on a room or doing something extra at the parks??

This would be a no-brainer for me, I would go for the Villas at Grand Californian.


When you stay at one DL hotel, you are not allowed to pool hop over to another hotel's pool. The new slide area opening at the DL hotel is only for DL hotel guests.

Worth every penny if you ask me! I wouldn't turn down an opportunity like that, but it's totally up to you if you'd rather spend that money doing something extra in the parks.

The pools that are being renovated are the ones at the Disneyland Hotel, which shouldn't impact you in the least at the Grand Californian. It is the new kiddie pool at the DLH, as well as the Neverland (peter pan) pool at the DLH. The first is almost complete, and the second should be complete 2012--but again, nothing to do with the Grand Californian.

And Hojos is like staying at your typical Motel 6, the Grand Californian is like staying at your typical resort hotel. That is the difference.

How many people are you traveling with and how long are you staying? If there's only two of you then I would go with VGC. If there's four of you I would go with HoJos. The studio only has one real bed and one sofa bed. I don't know how comfortable someone would be sleeping on that sofa bed for more than a few nights.

One thing that has not been mentioned - DVC rooms get limited housekeeping. For a stay 7 nights or less, you get trash & towel service on day 4. Full housekeeping can be purchased for $30 per night requested. Additional trash & towel service for $15 per night requested.
