My brother will be back from Afghanistan in July and wants to go to DLR and stay at the GCH in a DTD view room with two queen beds.(Late July) Other than it being relatively close and the actual expense he asked a few questions which I have no clue about:

1. Since the hotel does not provide breakfast, what would you recommend for an early(0600-0700) breakfast for all tastes that are close to the hotel?

2. Any links to photo's or photo's of the view and a double queen room. I have sent him stuff from the above sticky's.

3. Any advice in general about this hotel and what not to miss?

4. Can you get a good view of the fireworks from the rooms?

I know the answers have been posted before, so I thank you for being patient. I have already sent him Hydroguys pertinent info.

Thanks and have a great weekend,

Jack

Whitewater Snacks has a great breakfast with a lot of variety and decent prices. It's at the GCH over by the pool and right past the hotel entrance to DCA. Even when we stay at the DLH we still make a point of going to Whitewater Snacks for breakfast :)

Is white water open that early though? I'm not sure how early things on property open up so I am no help there.

We stayed in a DTD view but never stayed in the room to watch fireworks. I know the concierge lounge has a good view so I am guessing from most of the rooms you can see them. However the further down in DTD your room is the less great your view probably gets.

As far as what not to miss...that is different for everyone. I love spending some time in the lobby, it is quite relaxing. Perhaps before heading to bed. Also the pool is great. I enjoy the food from white water, cheap and tasty. Storytellers is good too. Check out the front door to the hotel, it is amazing, also the marble work in the lobby is pretty neat. Hope he has a great trip!

I am not sure what is open that early but Whitewater would be the place. La Brea Bakery might open around 8 am. Storytellers has a character breakfast.

He should be able to see the fireworks from a DTD view room as it would face the fireworks.

He can go in and out the east side of the hotel and exit into DCA then walk down through there to DLR and pick up a fastpass for Soarin for later.

There is a storyteller at the great Hearth evenings and I recently posted that.

GCH has room service 24 hours

Wow, I just got some information from vacation planning for our trip in December and it says that room service hours are 6am to 12am. I still think those hours will work for us so am not to upset. :)

If I had given the straight shot view across the walkway then you would have seen where the fireworks are. Yes, most DTD view rooms have fireworks view but Disney says "we don't guarantee it" in the fine print.

If the cost proves a bit dear, the DTD View from the DLH is awesome too and you also get a great view of the fireworks from a high floor room!

Please take advantage of the pool! The waterslide is a blast. Storytellers is good fun for a character breakfast with Chip/Dale/Goofy/and various creatures that can be hard to place. LoL.

There is a tab at the top that reads DL Photos that has a shot or two of a GCH queen room if you scroll down. Sorry, I don't have a shot because we almost always stay in a bunkbed room. I will say the rooms are small; the toilet and tub are in a cute closet with a sliding door. The sinks are outside which is convenient.

I hope you guys have a great trip!

GCH room service room service breakfast.
Costly but no dishes to wash so worth it.

This is the Storyteller's buffet and breakfast which gives you all you can eat buffet but if it is a character buffet then you pay more but either way you can pig out and then hit the parks without stopping except for snacks.

Well, on top of the prices from the menus mechurchlady provided (many thanks for the menus) there is a "service delivery of $2.00 per check, local tax and 19% service charge will be added to each room service order", but like she said no dishes to wash and you can stay in the comfort of your "home away from home". We normally grab goodies from the lounge and order some other stuff from room service. ::yes::

OOPS, SORRY, JUST SAW THAT STATED AT TOP OF MENU, MY BAD!;)

Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I don't suppose there is a small microwave in the room.

Jack

No microwave but a small mini fridge. However there isn't much room too keep your own things in it.

I have heard that you can request that the room mini-fridge be locked and have another empty one delivered to your room, or maybe it is that they just empty out that one, am not sure but I do remember reading on some thread that people had done that prior. :)

I wasn't aware that the mini-fridges at the GCH are stocked. :confused3

I know the mini-fridges are not stocked at the DLH or the PPH.

I would hope they would not be. I do not think he wants to be responsible for moving or taking an item. Just wants to keep food cool.
Thanks

I haven't stayed since 06 but everytime I have been there they are stocked. Also they are electronically sensored. If you even move an item, or pick it up, and do NOT eat or drink it you would still be charged. That fridge looks empty! There is usually almost no room. Maybe a bottle or two of water and that is all the non sensor space you have. There also used to be candy in the door. Did this change???
