GC Refund Time

Hi everyone,

Wasn't sure if this was the place to post this or not, but relevant to the budget process. So we maxed out the budget and "paid" off our trip - except we had to cancel a reservation to switch hotels and part of our budget is to be returned on gift cards we bought for the trip. My travel agent assured me it may only take 3-5 days, but I am not finding anything on the internet to suggest a normal time. Travel agent slipped and said Disney says 2 billing cycles to cover their behinds, but very unlikely. If that was the case, we wouldn't be able to make the trip payoff deadline at the end of April, or pushing close to it. So long story short --

Does anyone really know how long it takes to get your money refunded back onto your gift card? We cancelled it on Saturday.

Also knowing what I know now, I don't know if I would do the GC route again because it's a hassle.

I don't know and you're obviously already committed to your decision. I do know it's faster if they are issuing refunds to your original gift cards, so hopefully that's you!! 2 months sounds closer to what people who have to get new gift cards issued from Disney experience. Did the TA tell you 2 billing cycles were a possible, albeit remote, chance before you cancelled? If so fine, they're in the clear. If not please never, ever use them again. There is no excuse for misleading (lying) to a client.

As for going the gc route again, only you can determine it for yourself. Thank you for sharing with us because this is an aspect of paying with gift cards that people don't fully understand all the time! For those considering it always remember that once you purchase that gift card those dollars are committed to Disney. No matter what. Gift cards can reward you in cutting down trip cost but do indeed carry their own risk.

I know I wasn't able to give you the data you want, but I'm sure others will be able to in the next day or two. In the meantime I see you're new so . I'm sorry it's under such stressful circumstances. My fingers are sincerely crossed that it resolves quickly for you!

Yeah I wasn't aware of the fact until after. If for some reason it takes longer than a couple weeks I wonder what the chances of them moving it along quicker would be? Some people say it should be 2-5 days, but now I am worried!

Granted it's saved us close to $200 by doing GC's, but having over $1600 floating around waiting to be returned to me seems to be more of a risk that I wish I hadn't done. I'm impatiently waiting for it to come back to me to apply to my balance to pay it off.

SOOOOOOO - somehow it got refunded between the time I posted this thread and last checked it a few minutes ago!!!! WOW! What a huge RELIEF!

Gift card refunds have always been practically instant for me. Using a TA might make a difference.
