Alright, this is how I am ranking bands. Whoever gets the highest score gets the highest seed. I'm figuring the scores off of a formula. This is the formula.
*Ammount of records + *sum of record sales / *years as a band = score
*Ammount of Records
This is pretty simple. Every Album that the band has produced, will be added up here. I'm only counting albums that are solely the band. For example, Velvet Revolver has made Contraband, but they have also been featured on several soundtracks. I'm not counting the soundtracks they are featured on, only Contraband. I'm also including greatest hits albums.
*Sum of Record Sales
This is where things get a little more complicated. I'll be awarding points based off of how well a certain record did. If a record went gold, then it will get a certain ammount of points. Platinum, it will get some more points, and so on. Also it's only including US sales, so it may be hindered a little bit. The allocation of points is as follows...
Gold: 20 pts.
Platinum: 25 pts.
I'll also be giving an extra 5 points for every time a record goes multi-platinum. So for example, lets look at one album. Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood album.
First it went gold. Thats 20 points. Then it went Platinum, 25 more points. Then it went multiplatinum 5 times, so thats an additional 25 points. Altogether, Dr. Feelgood would have earned Motley Crue 70 points.
*Years as a Band
Simple really. I'll take 2006, and subtract it by the year the band formed. Not quite 100% effective, but it'll do.
So lets look at this whole formula in action. Once again, I'll use Motley Crue.
15 Albums + 405 points earned from album sales / 24 years as a band = 17.5 points
Once again, thats 15 + 405 / 24 = 17.5
Now understand I have to figure this out for every single band on the list. Thats 50 bands, where I have to go through discographies, figure out points, figure out how many years as a band, do the formula for each and every band, and then figure out how they rank. So it may take a week or two, but then we can get this party rolling.
