We are thinking about going at this time. I have heard stuff on this board about beheavior that I find hard to believe. I just want to have a balanced idea if what to expect. For the record I like Gay people-not a fan of public displays of affection from anyone or of obcene t shirts.

Thanks

We went two years ago during this time and didn't notice anything at all different in the parks. Honesty, there seems to be more inappropriate behaviour from young teens without the parents around. Or adults alone after a few drinks in the bars.

I think it's sad that there is a gay day and gay parades. Jeeze if you want to be seen as equals then act like it. I don't see parades for any other group of people. lets have a black history parade or a poligamest parade( I know way off). sorry but i just don't get it? maybe in the states it's not that excepting but in canada you have all the rights anyone else does so there is no need for anything special.

I think you will be fine if you pick a different park than the "designated" park for the days. I have heard two families describe very different experiences with the event, depending on which parks they chose. While you may not find any obscene shirts etc, you may notice considerably larger crowds.

Maybe its different in Canada but we do have parades for many groups of people here in the states. Next week is the Polish parade, we have many St Patricks day parades, Black history month, and much, much more.

OP - We have been twice and although I would avoid the park of the day just because of crowds we have had a great time during the first week of June. I would do Gay Days over Pop Warner days without a second thought.

I'm pretty sure NYC has Puterican Pride Parade, St Patty's day parade, we also have black History MONTH (not just an afternoon parade an entire month), also this month is Hispanic heritage month.......

So we do have many other parades for many other 'groups' of people.

I would try to avoid this time of the year if you have children. The shirts we saw last time we went had many saying that I had to try to explain to my dd's mant times. Also the crowds are much busier. don't get me wrong it wasn't crazy or anything i just found many of the attire very inapproiate.

We went last June and will never again! I seen things that weren't appropriate.

For the record, I don't think the kids noticed anything or they just didn't say anything, but I witnessed behavior that if I can avoid it in the future, certainly will.

Doesn't Disney ask people to turn their shirts inside out if a shirt is deemed to be inappropriate? I know I have seen that somewhere - maybe another amusement park - but it has been done, so I would hope that if that were the case, a CM would be right on it.

We went a couple of years ago during gay days. I saw one female with a t-shirt on that was absolutely disgusting. We saw one VERY intimate PDA between 2 men. The crowds didn't seem that bad.

Sorry I won't go then. We have attended functions unrelated in Long Beach California during Gay Days. I am heterosexual and don't carry on in public nor do I feel it necessary to tell every one about my sexual preference. My kids are adults now but I find it disgusting that Disney allows this kind of public display of ones sexual preference ( and believe me they feel compelled to display it) at a place designed for children. No bashing please just my personal opinion.

I guess St.Catherines is a little different than Toronto..

We have ethnic parades/festivals every week for some group or another..
I think it's cool.

some of us do not feel like displaying it. I am not going to start a debate with you but please do not classify ALL OF US as doing it. That is highly offensive. I have a partner and we do respect others in public. You might want to tell some of the heterosexuals that because while my friend was there he saw not one but two couples doing it in the hot tub. and they weren't gay. The horror.

Sorry you feel we are disgusting but they are gay days and it is published on here highly so do not go if you feel you cannot handle it. It is not like you were not warned like my friend wished he was. He still has nightmares. :rotfl2:

This is why we have parades and gay days so we can forget about people who want to bash us.

So I say go to the OP but do what someone else said and go to the other parks that day if you are just not sure.

I think I would also like to see 2 men or women kiss then have unruly kids bumping into me online while there parents act like they are the cutest things. That is disrespectful to all around.

What is Disney going to do? :confused3 It's freedom of speech and freedom to choose whoever they want as a partner. They do not sponsor the event(s). They have every right to attend parks just as much as we do. Can some of them be flamboyant and obnoxious...of course HOWEVER, so can hetersexuals. I have seen some very digusting behaviors from them as well...Behaviors have nothing to do with sexual orientation but more than lack of respect and decency.

:thumbsup2 I think unruly children and lack of parental supervision is Disney #1 problem... I can't believe Disney let's these parents and children into their parks.. I think they should do something about this... :rotfl:

WDW does not promote the celebration of 'Gay Days', it's not affiliated with any of the theme parks. People have the right to go to WDW, a group organizes this online, and people choose to go at this time. Also, in this country, people have the right to a certain level of PDA, and expressing sexual preference is a freedom to treasure.

Wow! I've been to WDW many times during Gay Days and never saw anything offensive. I've seen a lot of red t-shirts and a few gay couples holding hands. That's it. I must either be off in my own or just in the wrong place, because I just haven't seen anything bad at all.

I haven't read much about this event. Is it a parade in the park? If it is, then I don't see why Disney would allow that since it is mainly a place for children. If not, and it's just in the Orlando area, I agree with the others, just avoid the parks at that time of year if you are concerned.

I would hope that Disney would try to monitor inappropriate shirts for anyone, not just gays and lesbians, but I can't imagine how they could possibly "catch" every inappropriate one with the millions of visitors they get.

Gay Days are not an endorsed Disney event. That being said the moderators will not allow this thread to turn into a gay bashing thread. I'm reading the thread now and it will be closed if it becomes an attack thread.
