Gay Days The real deal

Go ahead and call me homophobic, I don't care. But the last time I checked, this is a free country and the same freedoms "quoted" for gays also apply to "responsible and morally upright" parents who wish to protect their children from vulgarity and debauchery when paying big $$$$ for a family vacation. With that being said, I am curious to find answers to some important questions I have re: gay days for 2009. From what I understand, gay days are "planned" for June 2nd through 7th 2009. Are these dates "concrete" or are they usually "subject to change" by whomever organizes these things? My daughter's birthday is June 8th (Monday) and we are planning on booking our vacation for June 8th through 13th. Is there ANY risk of any gay days "rollover" on the 8th or during that following week, or all they all "packed up and gone" for the most part by Sunday night the 7th? I do not intend to knowingly expose my children to ANY of this filth and want to know if I am safe to go ahead and book for the dates above.

You realize there are gay people at the parks every day of the year, right? Personally, my reservations are June 3 to 11. ;) So I know there will be at least one gay person there until then.

Seriously, there are always a few people who stay will stay for a few days after the close on Sunday. There are always, for any event, those that arrive early or stay late, no matter what the event may be, I mean I stayed a few days in Vegas after the close of a video software convention, too. You could witness some same-gender handholding any time at any park, just like you may witness opposite gender handholding and such at any time.

Really? I thought they escorted all the gays out when Gay Days was over. ;)

Nah, only the ones that set off the gaydar detectors at the park gates, but those things are easily fooled. :rotfl2: I heard a rumor they may be adding them to the fast pass machines, too.

Oh, thank goodness. The gays were just zipping through the parks with all their offensive love and whatnot. At least that way they'll be stuck in the long lines. Is there also a detector for scantily clad heteros? Or teenage couples whose hormones are raging? I know a PP was worried about debauchery and vulgarity.

I can't believe some of the mean remarks I have read on this thread. We have never been on "gay days", but my family would never avoid the parks because of it. My DD8 has been taught there are different kinds of families--(mom/dad, dad/dad etc). We have taught her to be open minded and treat everyone the same. :) :)

Do they offer extra magic hours for Gay and Lesbian couples? I suppose you have to prove that somehow before actually getting on the ride LOL Hmm, do they make a holder for that type of pass ;)

:rotfl:

Edited to add that we'd have no issue going during Gay/Lesbian days, except for the heat during that time of year. We saw a few homosexual couples while at Disney this year (Sept/Oct) and even one couple that looked to be recently married, not even sure but they had on the tuxedo and bride Mickey hats :) None of that bothered us (or our 5 children), but the children running crazed through the park, bumping in to us or spilling water out on the sidewalk (calmly watching the parade and then having that wet/cold feeling rush over your butt is not pleasant) as we tried to watch the parade were enough to make me want to punch some straight parents LOL

What is Disney going to do? :confused3 It's freedom of speech and freedom to choose whoever they want as a partner. They do not sponsor the event(s). They have every right to attend parks just as much as we do. Can some of them be flamboyant and obnoxious...of course HOWEVER, so can hetersexuals. I have seen some very digusting behaviors from them as well...Behaviors have nothing to do with sexual orientation but more than lack of respect and decency.

:thumbsup2

OMG This is my favorite post so far!!!!

I have planned our trips twice during this time frame, the first time was accident and we were taking two teenage grandkids, I decided to talk to them about this time frame and both were 14 and 16 boy and girl, they only said "oh make sure you don't wear red" we went and I was very surprised how good it was, not much different maybe some odd to see so many good looking men in one I only saw young people acting up that time. The next trip everything was cool and I noticed how loving the "family couple's) were to there kids. All in all this time is no different then in other if you go in with excepting minds. Go enjoy and use it has a learning experience.

I've been. I find that the PDA is worse when the cheerleaders are there for Pop Warner than when its Gay Week.

We were there last week and it was Food and Wine - and saw some behavior that would be difficult to explain to unworldly kids (ours we raise pretty street aware). I don't think there is a time in Disney where you can guarentee you won't see something you aren't comfortable with that you might have to explain to your children - but you can choose your time to reduce your risk - the risk of same sex PDA is higher during Gay Week (though it exists 365 days a year), the risk of drunks is higher during Food and Wine (but you can always spot drunks at Epcot), the risk of unsupervised teens behaving like - unsupervised teens - higher during Pop Warner......

Please don't feed the troll with one post.

Who's the troll? :confused3 I thought this was a serious post asking about Gay Days and if a family would feel uncomfortable. The only off color post I saw was a few pages back about someone and their 'right'.....they only had 1 post though, so I figured it was a flame starter......still I think everyone has kept it pretty light on here and it's a troll'less' conversation.

Duh.....you are talking about the 1 post person LOL I thought you were saying not to feed the troll by posting 1 post in reply LOL Now I get it LOL

I was the feeder, but I just couldn't let all the quotation marks go! In a controversial civil rightsesque conversation, leave it to me to point out the punctuation.

i've visited the parks twice during gay days and have found the crowds to be exceptionally friendly and fun and saw absolutely nothing inappropriate- sexually or otherwise. wear red to show your support for civil rights in respect to the gay and lesbian community.

So how do you plan to shield your family from the "vulgarity and debauchery" you can see any day at the parks? Hetro couples can engage is some behavior that is pretty disgusting too. You are painting all homosexual couples with a pretty broad brush. The vast majority of them to not run around grabbing each other, just as the vast majority of hetro couples don't. Personally, I think over the top PDAs are offensive, no matter if it is a hetro or a homosexual couple.

And btw, homosexuals are at Disney every day! Not just during Gay Days.

Again, if you think it will bother you, don't go. We all have a choose when we go. When my family is at Disney, I don't waste my time worry about someone elses sexual oreintation. I am busy having fun and enjoying my family. Running into same sex couples is easier for me to explain then the father who is screaming at his kids in the parks or the women who are barely wearing clothes. Just my opinion, again if you will be offended, go a different week.

We went a couple of years ago during gay days. I saw one female with a t-shirt on that was absolutely disgusting. We saw one VERY intimate PDA between 2 men. The crowds didn't seem that bad.

Your obviously a close minded person, you think its okay for a straight couple to makeout at disney but not a gay couple? Thats discriminating!

To the OP its fine nothing bad happens and nothing is vulgar, its just like a normal day in the park.

Sorry I won't go then. We have attended functions unrelated in Long Beach California during Gay Days. I am heterosexual and don't carry on in public nor do I feel it necessary to tell every one about my sexual preference. My kids are adults now but I find it disgusting that Disney allows this kind of public display of ones sexual preference ( and believe me they feel compelled to display it) at a place designed for children. No bashing please just my personal opinion.

whats the difference if they are straight or gay, its the same!

I was there in 2007 and had a wonderful time! :thumbsup2 Saw NOTHING obscene met some nice couples! Wanna go back next year and I'm not even gay! I would stay away from MK on their day just because of the crowds. It was A LOT of fun! :yay:

That's because you're not one of the morally uptight! :thumbsup2
