Do you know what htey mean by you have to be registered for the event? I'm a little worried that I'll lose my reservation if I am not registered.. whatever that means.

You do need to create an account on the Gay Days site to access the links to book onsite hotels, but there does not seem to be any other requirements.
Unlike a convention, there is no registration for Gay Days.
I have attended several Gay Days (the big event in October) and have never been asked for any verification.

I wrote to them to ask about the discount and this is the response I received:

The official policy, set by Disney, is that the rate is for guests who are coming to Gay Days as opposed to guests who are coming to Disneyland and it happens to be Gay Days. So, to the extent that the messages are getting the word out that there is a code that can be used for discounts for those wanting to attend the event, it’s totally kosher. For those who have no interest in the event and are taking advantage of a discount code, that would be considered against policy.

I think the posts on your site sort of straddle the line. But I do think some responders “get it.”

Thank you!

We attended Gay Days last year. Didn't end up staying onsite, but I know a few people who did and the only real requirement is that you register on the Gay Days website. Last year was really fun, but it was packed. DL has some rainbow themed merchandise that's usually available. We took my moms as a surprise and it was great. Hoping to go again.

If you book using the Gay Days rate it is under the expectation that you are doing so because you are participating in the weekend events in some capacity (same with Dapper Days or any other event that offers special convention rates). Like others have said they don't officially check a "registration" of attendees though. It's totally understandable that they want the discounted rates to go to their attendees and not to a bunch of people who just happen to be going that weekend and want to capitalize on a good rate with no intention of participating. I think it'd be pretty impossible to determine which are which though...

My BFF and I attended and participated last year and it was a great time!

Disney hasn't checked with that event before. They do check with events that require registration. They could force Gay Days or Dapper Days to require guests to register so that they have a list to check against, if they wanted to in the future. As someone stated on another thread, Disney has said that they're going to start enforcing the non-refundable deposit on Dapper Days reservations due to a high volume of last minute cancellations.
