Gay Days At Universal Studios

I am glad you quit that job. It was pretty obvious that you hated it. And I can't blame you.

As to the question...I am offended that they don't have it. In fact, I am boycotting Universal until they have a gay days. Unless they don't do it by fall. I'll probably end the boycott by fall.

There's not a day, or a week honored for them. Groups or conventions have nothing to do with gay days.

Actually, the people who organize the event ARE a group, and could even be called a convention. It's the exact same thing. A group of like-minded (or supportive) people organizing an event for a reason that's important to them, having the numbers to get a group rate for hotels, or a group rate on tickets, and having the event!

If WDW stores had rainbow pins out, it shows that they are SMART, not that it's official; it shows that they know that there will be a large group of people there that day who want that pin, and WDW wants the money for that pin.

Gay Days aren't official. They are just like any other convention. I'm sure if there was a Mary Kay convention, and WDW had bright pink pins, they'd put those out front and center too, and there would be some MK reps who were obnoxious and annoyed people, while most of the MK reps would be unnoticed by others, and then people would say "oh those MK reps, they are ALL so annoying, talking about their makeup and doing makeovers and wearing such obnoxious shirts..."

Unless they don't do it by fall. I'll probably end the boycott by fall.

:rotfl: You hid that bit of funny there... :)

Thank you for your concern. I managed to stay over a year where the turnover rate was so incredible that I had co-workers I never even met because I was off for a day or two. I was surprised when my letter of recommendation from my supervisor said that I was very good with guest services because I think some of the things that we all did to make our photo quotas was very bad PR for Universal Studios, even though we were not counted as Universal employees. Then the requirement to stand in direct sunlight in thick uniforms in 90-100 degree heat made us irritable at a time that we were guests' first impression of Universal. Bad deal.

What I am hoping to see at Universal for Gay Days is not some wild party with conduct inappropriate for public display. It would be family-friendly because gays have children too and are not going to tolerate aything goes.

Gay Days a wild party with inappropriate public display??
no.

have not seen that type of behavior even at the motherland during gay days.

you will see male/female couples that will get a few looks while in the park with their display of affection.

but then, you can see that anywhere.

Now that I have given my two weeks' notice and yesterday was my last day at the gate at Universal Studios, I want to ask a question that I have been wondering about. Now I am just a member of the public asking members of the public a question on a public message board.

I have agreed to work in the promotion of tourism in Orlando. Quite frankly I am hoping to work to include Universal Studios in the Gay Days, which takes place primarily at WDW. I believe that growth in the LGBT market would be good for the city of Orlando. You are certainly free to agree or to believe that I have lost my mind from too much sun at that front gate, and my question will remain the same.

Would you personally be offended as a Universal Studios guest if Universal Studios took part in Gay Days?

Hell no!!!! I'd LOVE LOVE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT:yay: Keep the momentum going and hopefully you'll get it done:dance3:

Wonder what happened with the situation....since this is a year old thread.....

I'll be at Universal during Gay Days but don't think there's any events planned in the two parks, as far as I can tell from the park hours scheduled (10pm and 9pm closures).

We are going to Disney for Gay Days but we are tacking two days at Universal on afterwards. As far as I can tell, there are no events planned at Universal. I went to the big Stars Party at Universal during Gay Days a few times in the past. It was really fun but I don't think they have had that for years. Also, they used to have a big dance party at the concert arena (Hard Rock) but no more. Not sure why they ended these, because they were always super crowded.

I don't see it as any different than a large group of Harry Potter fans planning a certain day or days and visiting the parks as a unified group with coordinated events. Universal held a large fan event last year. Nobody honoured the HP fans.

What he said.

Don't seem to me like UO needs to promote to specific lifestyles. They seem to be doing fine. Gay or straight, everyone's welcome to ride the movies all year long.

I wish that I had gone ahead with the tourism promotion job, but I got an offer from Disney World and took it. Then the schedules were going to conflict so I took Disney because it was full time with a chance at great insurance. I loved Disney World for both the guests and my co-workers until I got hurt on the job. I did not want to take Workers' Comp. because it would mean giving up the job, but my doctors kept pressuring me so that they could get paid. I felt a strong obligation to pay for my surgery so I signed my settlement papers with Disney yesterday. I will respect my obligations to Disney and not go into any details about this, but my heart feels like it is breaking into a million pieces.

Oh, SF, what a bummer! And wow, I didn't know if you filed workman's you would then have to leave the company. That doesn't sound right.:hug::hug:

Maybe you can go back and to the original plan?

Thank you so much. I appreciate your concern, but that is the policy for everyone. This is true for people who have been there for 30 years, and I was there for less than one year.

The attorney was very kind about it. He said that I am very personable, even while under extreme stress and sadness and that he believes that I am destined for something better because he believes that I am an excellent salesperson. I hope he is right, but I shall just have to be sad awhile

I am not sure what happened either, but I think that I will look into it. I know that there was a group for gay Universal team members because I went to Lake Eola to support this group in their march in Out With Pride, but it was rained out. I shall see whether the group is still active at Universal because most likely they would like to have some Gay Days activities at Universal Orlando. I have not been to Universal Hollywood since 1991 so I don't have any idea what goes on there while Gay Days is going on at Disneyland.

My research thus far indicates that there are two markets which are quite lucrative for travel. Not surprisingly I found that retirees are a good market, but gays are running a close second and sometimes surpass the senior citizens' market. The fans of certain other destinations seem very open to a trip to theme park cental here in Central Florida when I chat with them in the travel sites.

What would y'all most like to see as part of Gay Days at Universal Studios if it were included? I am also asking this on other sites that are not theme park related, but y'all know that you have the ear -- well, actually the eyes -- of marketing people on this site so you just might get what you want if you make some noise here.

No problem from me with it.

But there is always gonna be the few bashers to disagree, always. The majority is fine with it tho.

I attended Gay Days at Disney World and at the Doubletree across the street from Sea World this weekend. I was careful in my phrasing of my questions because my goal is not to steal business from Disney or Sea World. I am happy for Disney, and good for Sea World to have gotten themselves a winner in their new ride that opened over Memorial Day. My goal is simply to expand the market for Universal and Orlando. My interviews indicate that there is quite a possibility for other cities to so I am wondering who I should talk to and shall soon be finding out.

Just like almost any other special event (HHN is the exception) I want to know so I that can avoid it! I avoid all of the parties because crowds bug me. Sometimes it works. ;)

Otherwise, I don't care. Universal is a great place for a party, that's for sure.
