Gay couples on Disney Cruises - what's it like?

We're taking our first ever cruise, let alone Disney cruise in December on the Dream. What is the experience like for gay couples on a Disney cruise?

We're not PDA fanatics by any stretch of the imagination -- but I guess I worry about getting seated at dinner with an uncomfy, less-than-fabulous couple or two. (LOL).

In any case, we're excited. Sorta queened out over on line views and descriptions of CC, Palo, Remy, Skyline Bar and Pink Lounge.

I'd be thankful to read about your experiences cruising gay with Disney!

Thanks!

:santa:

Never ever had an issue! The crew will treat you like royalty! If for some very odd reason you have an issue at your dinner table simply ask for the head server and asked to be moved to a new table!

You are going to love the Dream! pirate:

You won't have any issue at all as all of the crew members are respectful and very helpful. As PP said if you run into table mates that aren't doing it for you, ask to be moved. I think you'll find that most people don't really have an issue with gay people or that's been my experience. It is Disney afterall, so they should expect to see some of us on these ships. :lmao:

Also, you will also find other "family" on the ship too without a doubt. It would be nice if they had an event for LGBT folks on the ship instead of having to people watch to find them.

I will be on the October 2nd and 6th cruises and looking forward to it! Time to hit the pool and aqua duck!

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks, FirstCruise! We've always had perfectly lovely experiences at WDW and DL - but as we're new to DCL, we were curious! Can't wait to set sail on the Dream, Dec 18th!

We're going on #21 and #22 in 20 some odd days and have been sailing on DCL since 2000.
You won't have a problem.

I'm just going to chime in and agree with everyone else. We are on Nos. 7 & 8 next month (9 and 10 in March/April 2012) and have never had an issue. We've sat with DIS board friends, once with our own small group of 3, and the rest have been tables of 6+. Never an issue!

Disney doesn't do this, but just about every other line does. They have a bulliten board down by the guest services desk. Someone will usually post "Friends of Dorothy, main pool bar, 3:00 pm"

That is code for "lets all meet up"! :lmao:

I'm a gay solo traveler, and, I totally agree with the other people who praise the staff of DCL. They are faaaaabulous!
My last cruise, I did get put at a table with a two straight couples, one of them a SBC couple from Georgia. While I don't wear feather boas and stilettos on DCL, I don't keep my lefty-queer-multicultural self in the closet either. The man in the SBC couple was persecutorial until his wife shut him up.
It was only a 4-night cruise and they spent one night at Palo. The other couple were good people, so it was mixed. Because of dietary problems that the staff need to deal with, I was wary about switching dining staff mid-cruise.
But, hey, at least on good-ole-boy was face-to-face with a proud queer. That ought to count for something!

Good for you. Its better (but not easy) to stand up and be yourself. :thumbsup2

We are getting ready to go on our 10th disney cruise. For the most part there have been no problems. The staff is always great. We were even picked to do the match your mates show one time. The cm had the hardest time changing up the gender in his questions. Afterwards, some of the head cm's came to us to make sure it was handled ok and that we had a good experience. We always do a couples treatment in the spa, and they seem to be almost giddy that we are a gay couple. Only twice have the tablemates been an issue. Both times, the parties just never came back dinner. One time they changed tables and the other time the family ate at the buffet. We saw the mom later and she said she hadn't been feeling well but you could tell it was a very awkward lie.

Thanks for the helpful feedback, everyone! We're very excited about the Dream...and it will also by my first cruise! :cool1::cheer2::woohoo::yay:

If anyone will be on the Dec 15 or 18 Dream sailings -- let us know! pirate:

Thanks for the good reports. I have been on 9 cruises, but with my x-wife and kids, but this February I will be going on my first cruise with my partner. So I'm very interested to see how the experience will be different.

I have only cruised solo (DP doesn't vacation well...) and felt the crew to be lovely.

As for table mates at dinner I have had some pretty remarkable ones.:goodvibes:goodvibes

Enjoy your cruise!

I'll be on the Oct 6 sailing as well. The Dream is amazing, I did a back to back in May, and it was so great we just had to book another one to tack on at the end of our Food and Wine trip!

Like everyone else said, you'll have a GREAT time! We have done 8 cruises, and there have been several threads in the past with the same question, and by all reports, people have great experiences, with only some select discomfort with table mates, and as stated, you can move or change. As a matter of fact, on our Dream cruise in May, we actually had NO table mates, it was just the two of us, and it was great! Got one of the coveted 8 booths in Enchanted Garden all to ourselves. Have fun!

My partner and I have cruised 8 times with DCL and honestly would not cruise on any other cruise lines. We've been on others and find DCL to be amazing...we've never had any issues and truly felt 100% comfortable. We had issues once with table mates on a three night cruise but overall fantastic! Just got off back to back cruises and booked on the maiden voyage for the Fantasy and rebooked for Mexican Riviera Oct 2013. Love love LOVE IT! :)

We had the best time on the Disney cruise. I was worried too about who we would be sitting with for dinner. But the couples we sat with were very nice. The two couples at our table were way older than us and both around the same age.

We made pleasnatries and then they sort of bonded and had a separate conversation which was fine with me.

I've been wondering the same thing about gay couples on my upcoming Dream cruise (sailing 11/3). Just posted my first Disboards post, over at the cruise forum, yay!

Anyway, my partner and I will be taking our very first Disney Cruise for my 30th Bday Spectacular and was curious about the other gays on these types of cruises, especially other couples like ourselves who will not be with children. I feel a bit better after browsing through some of these threads. :thumbsup2
