Wow. This is the most I ever paid on a Southwest flight to MCO from Chicago. $177 each. On previous trips the highest fare I paid was about $130. I will have to wait to buy our return flight when I have more disposable cash. I saw the price kept going up each week over the past month and figured I had to buy now. Maybe fares will go down and I will be able to get a credit.
Any thoughts if the prices may go down before the end of September? Maybe a fall sale coming up?

I am hoping for a sale because I have to buy 3 round trip tickets for the end of September and I am not paying that much. Delta is even higher. I think I might have to cancel my trip if the prices do not come down.

I just bought our tickets for August a few weeks ago. I finally gave up too.

It looks like it's just going to be an expensive year.

We leave 9/10 and purchased our tickets for 256.00 back in Feb. Our same flights now cost 513.00, double what we paid. What is up with that? Definitely could not have doubled our money in the bank.

I agree. We are looking for November flights from DC area. We'll cancel before we pay 181 or 231 each way.

if you don't mind using ohare, the United flights are $164 round trip now.
that includes tax but you do have the luggage fee to pay.

my flights are 9/24 and return of 10/10

i had checked out using SW out of milwaukee but they were $$$

I would love 177.00 one way - from Houston to MCO is 192.00 one way.

It is ridiculous, isn't it? If you are willing to drive to Austin, their flights to MCO are MUCH cheaper. We are looking at $120 and $136 as opposed to $192 and $193 out of Hobby. Crazy! But we just might make the drive to save some money.

I have lost any hope that airfares will get any better.
I get sales emails from Southwest but they are only for Tuesday and Wednesday flights which doesn't help me and even at that, most of the flights are not nonstop. I am a paranoid flier and taking off and landing any more than once is not an option.
Anyone notice how few nonstop flights there are any more as compared to the past?

I am glad I booked when I did at $120 my same flights are now $210 down and $276 back. Crazy! Especially since the time I booked gas prices have fallen quite a bit. I am not complaining about the $120 though it would have been nice if I got them for $80 like I did last year when they had their birthday sale. Good luck everyone.

Airfare prices are making me sick lately. When we booked Disney back in 2008 I think our prices were somewhere around $69 each way out of Philly on Southwest. I'm now paying $135 each way. Ok, so I get free luggage and I don't have to pay for a seat assignment. But, for a family of 4 with only 2 suitcases I would make out better with lower fares paying the extra fees. They've also cut a lot of the non-stops. Saturday 9/22 only has 2 nonstop flights with the earliest at 2pm!!! What happened to the morning flights? I'm wondering if they're trying to push some service to Airtran since they've merged.

I'm also wondering the same thing about SWA trying to give AT more of the northern cities to MCO business. I noticed the same thing about ns flights and even though we're not currently planning any trips to WDW this fall (we're going to Disneyland in January and most likely will be flying SWA there) if we were I would definitely be looking more toward AT.

For our 12/4-12/9 trip from Chicago, nailed it with $107 for trip down a few weeks ago, still waiting to see what happens on return, best I see now is $177, maybe I should grab that, but just bought park tickets with money I had saved for airfare..

We just booked $150 each way from Dallas. I looked at Austin and Houston, willing to drive a bit to save (times 5 adds up!) but everything is expensive. Hopefully it will go down.

I don't know when in September you are going, but last week I bought ORD-MCO roundtrip on American for $77 each way for Sept. 25-Oct. 3.

We live in Memphis, and Delta has the only nonstop to MCO at $450+ per person roundtrip, not counting luggage. I usually find decent round trips from Nashville on SWA, but this year they were a lot higher, $1100 for three. We are actually driving to Birmingham to fly out this year, I used our FF miles but had I paid cash it would have only been $598 total for the three of us.

Unfortunately, it looks like the days of $49 each way are over. :(

Southwest is no longer the cheapest. Be sure to check other carriers. I waited for a sale to come up for flights from Denver to Seattle but they were never on sale for this route on my dates and then last week I checked other carriers and they were much cheaper. Both United, Frontier and Alaska were offering much cheaper fares.

There was a 72 hour sale a few weeks ago - I booked from Birmingham for $108 ROUND TRIP Sept 1-10 on Southwest :)

Daisy Mum when you said cheaper did that include checked bag fees? I can't seemed to get everything for 1 week without washing packed into a small carry on.

I finally gave in a booked my August flights a couple of weeks ago at $140 each way (MHT-MCO). I've been watching since February and they never went down. This week they've gone up to $202 and $256 each way. I usually get between $82-$99 each way.
