They're back???? I didn't realize until I saw today's Target ad that gauchos are back :scared1: :scared: :faint:. I hearby promise never to wear them :crazy2:.

I saw the same ad today and was frightened. How dare they bring those things back! Im short and with extra fluff so let me just say how bad they would look on me. Me not wearing them isn't even an option. The thought would never cross my mind. I just hope my mother doesn't see them. She thinks I should wear whats "in" no matter how it looks on me. Im a grown adult and my mother still tries to give me fashion advice. And if I dont take her advice.....she will just pick it up for me anyways as a gift. How nice.

I would buy a pair of dressy ones if I can find some knee high boots that will fit my legs.

Okay you scare me! I saw the Target ad today and showed it to my DH. I told him I couldn't believe these things were coming back! He didn't like the looks of them. He said he thought they made the models in the pic look bowlegged.

I mean no offense to anyone who likes these but I have seen three different fashion models wearing these in three different ads now and they make even the models look heavy! If it makes a fashion model look overweight then one can only imagine what it does to the average size woman!

I think overall most women should stay far far away from these.

On no! Gauchos! Can Leisure Suits be far behind? :rotfl: Polyester will become an endangered species again, and ankle fractures due to people falling off their platform shoes will increase.

(I have wedding photos showing different guests wearing all those styles.)

I once heard a saying: "If you wore a style as an adult the first time around, you should pass on it the second time. You might think you can get away with it, but you really can't." As the mother of an adult daughter, I've heard some of the comments about "Mutton trying to pass as lamb."

I had a pair of denim gauchos in 7th grade--I wore them with my rainbow-striped toe socks and a pair of Mork from Ork suspenders. I was stunning, I tell you! Just stunning!!! :thumbsup2

:cool1: I also had those suspenders (ok, did I just admit that?) but never the gauchos

I don't know if I ever actually wore gauchos, but my sister did. I had a pair of rust corduroy knickers (yes, newspaper-boy looking knickers) in 5th grade when they were popular for girls . That would be so funny if they came back into style, too. I'll have to see if I have a picture. . .

My 9 year old DD loves gauchos...she has been wearing them since fall. They look really cute on her but I don't think I'll be trying on a pair anytime soon.

I did too!!! Ugh, the 70's! And werent gauchos called coulottes the first time around!

Even scarier part is they make maternity gauchos! I decided two things, that they werent flattering the first time around so I would pass....and they really wouldnt be plattering with a HUGE pregnant belly...especially in plus size! Although.....they would take the attention away from the belly! Maybe people would be so stunned they wouldnt rub my belly! :rotfl2:

Oh, yeah, I had the shiny corduroy knickers in college - wore them with a stiff white shirt with big puffy sleeves and a huge collar, an enormous paisley scarf draped over one shoulder and tucked into my belt, and metallic gold ballet flats!

I like them.

Because I'm so tall, I'm always thrilled when *intentionally* short pants are in style! :teeth:

Me too - love 'em.

Theyve been back in for over a year, though....

Theyre quite flattering on (like several posters mentioned, with boots or strappy heels)

Very cute - where at?

oh - sorry...gap.com (i got a super cute pair just like this in a "khaki material"...but in dark green...so cute.

I have the "flowy" ones too...nice, but not on my super size thighs anymore. I think those look better on the younger girls...and the more "structured ones" look better on the 25+ crowd. JMO.

Now THOSE I like :thumbsup2. Eddie Bauer has some similar boot cut ones I really want, but I haven't shelled out $50 for them yet :scared:. Capris are so versatile, and after so many years of being in style I think they might be here to stay ::yes::.

I think coulottes were more like tight short capris than like gauchos, weren't they? Maybe not, but it's how I've always pictured them. Or maybe I'm thinking of pedal pushers.

:rotfl2: :lmao: Oh, my! I think I had the same outfit! Except my scarf wasn't paisley, it was a gold, with a big open weave and long fringe!

Oh, and Poohbear, if I remember correctly, there was a slight difference between gauchos and culottes the first time around. I think gauchos were in first, then the slightly wider culotte came into style. ...but I could be wrong on that. :confused3

All I can say is God help us if hot pants ever come back in style. I had a pair of partchwork suede ones that I wore with tights and lace up go go boots. Horrible!

Oh yes, I remember the Gauchos. I wore them in 6th and 7th grade. I had them in many colors and fabrics with matching vests and a pair of awesome Frye Gaucho boots. I was quite the 70's Fashion Diva. :teeth:

I beieve the boots are back as well. I know I saw Frye boots at Nordstrom in the fall.

I am now waiting for the return of the one piece bell bottomed jump suit. Yeah! Yeah! :rotfl:
