Gator Tragedy

The family back here in Nebraska has had overwhelming support since they have got back. I can't possibly know what this family is going through right now, IMO, this is a terrible accident, something I've never heard of at Disney and something you will probably never hear again. Our local radio station had a interview on last Thursday I believe, they also lost a 2 year old to a accident, If the interview is still on, it is worth checking out, he had great views of things, it's kfab.com and look for the Dave Nabity interview. I've heard all the blame the parents, blame Disney, blame the signs, blame the alligator but sorry, this was a freak incident. There was also a 2 year old in Omaha that fell backwards on a chair in the yard and is now in a coma because their was something, (they don't even know what it was) they hit their head (and they couldn't even find a bump) in just the right spot. Do we ban chairs? How about chairs in back yards? No person under 10 in a chair outside? Sorry for the ramble, I just feel so bad for these parents.

I agree. This was a freak accident. Could the parents done more? Sure! Could Disney Do more? Sure! It's tragic and I can't even begin to imagine how they are coping. I would need to be medicated... Therapy..... if I could even function after that. My heart goes out to the family and that poor boy, now in the Lords Hands :littleangel:.

I guess it's just my thought that it is Disney and it is supposed to be safe! This atmosphere is what they try to project and it's easy to forget that no one (Not even Disney) can control everything.

I'm a stranger, not connected in any way, and know nothing of this family besides their tragedy and my heart still hurts. I can't imagine the pain they're feeling still and will be for a long time. I am in the mental health field and so glad I don't have to deal with this as a therapist. I don't think I'd be able to take it.

I will agree with you 100%. I told my DW last night, the paranoia that is going on right now is almost overwhelming. Just look at some of the threads, "do we need all that water" "are water rides safe" etc. "are the parents to blame" when a freak, tragic accident like this happens, people on the internet all of a sudden become alligator experts, parent experts, etc. Just a little vent, just a fyi, the boys funeral is today at 10 am in Omaha. Lord help the parents cope.:littleangel:

I believe Omaha is on CST. I am on EST. At 11am EST I will get up from my desk and remember that poor family.

I would add that some of the reactions have been ridiculous and SO out of proportion to the reality. No question this is a tragic, freak event. It also is a once in 30 years event at WDW. I follow the News and Rumors board pretty close. In the last 30 years, there have been as many, or in some cases many more people killed on the roadways (CM killed last year driving home after work. Minivan crash late last year killing some occupants), the monorail crash, dying at DTD (before Disney Springs), in pools (recently) and I'm sure many others that haven't made it to the public attention, than have been killed by alligators on property.

People are still driving around WDW, going to the pools, riding the monorails, riding the rides and getting drunk at DS. I won't hesitate to camp next to the canal, rent a canoe at the Fort, ride a SeaRaycer, watch the fireworks from the beach or go see the water parade each night. I get that some people have a hard time with perspective, but time is a great healer. I suspect by this fall, most people will be back to their old routines and the "gator incident" will be history the same way the "monorail incident" is today.

I think we were meant to be friends. This is exactly what I have been saying.

Madonna,

I worked psyc for about 6 years before going to the ICUs and then administration. It gave me a fascinating insight at a young age. Lots of lessons I still use 30 years later.

Thanks for everything you do and your comments on here. It's clear many people are struggling with this event, but having others keep a perspective should help a lot of people get through.

Are we still able to fish the canals behind our sites or anyone getting flak?

Exactly

Allot of ways to get hurt at WDW. Cars ,buses, boats, rides, wild animal attack, zika virus
Eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV), West Nile virus.
I would not be afraid. Just follow the safety rules ,drive carefully and pay attention. Just like you do at home.

In another thread, it has been said that fishing has only been allowed at the dock across from the Bike Barn and people are getting yelled at if they are fishing behind their site.
