My DF will be going to WDW for the first time and we would really like to see gators in their natural habitat. Can anyone reccommend airboat rides with Gators near WDW? We will be staying at ASMo :)

Will you have a car? I would thoroughly recommend this tour. I went with them May 2010 and I couldn't have asked for a better tour! Totally private, and we got nice and close to lots and lots of alligators!! Plus a lot of birds, too.
But to get to them there is a little bit of a drive.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Actually, we won't have a car handy. :( The tour you mentioned seems like a lot of fun! Do you know of another a bit closer to WDW?

We looked last year and there is nothing close to Disney. They're all about a 30 minute drive away. Nor did any of the ones we look at offer any sort of a shuttle service. So pretty much, you're going to pay a lot for a taxi or you can rent a car for the day at the Swan or Dolphin or the car care center.

If it is in your budget I would rent a car for a day to do the tour. Otherwise taxis might cost just a bit much! I stay off site () when I travel to Orlando so have a car all the time!

We got a Groupon deal with Boggy Creek Airboats (located close to the airport). Summer isn't the best time to spot gators, but we did see a few, including a mom guarding a nest and another with 2 young ones nearby. Spent most of the time looking for something, but had a GREAT time. Kids can't wait to do it again next year. Afterwards we stopped and spent a few hours at Gatorland (our "Gator Day" activities). Would highly recommend doing both!

Boggy Creek Airboats mentioned by wolf29 may be your closest option. I have taken out of town visitors there several times.

However, you should know that nobody can guarantee that you will see gators. To improve your chances, try to go at dusk, not during mid-day.

We also did Boggy Creek and enjoyed it. And yes, we did see a gator but it really wasn't all that exciting. It was more interesting to see all of the birds and other wildlife and to see our daughter hold a baby gator at the end of the ride. If you want to see gators, go to Gatorland or head over to the Gaylord Palms when it is feeding time for their gators.

I also totally recommend the Spirit of the Swamp tour!! If there's any way you can get there, it's worth it. :) Our trip with DDad83 in '09 was fabulous. We saw large and small gators, bald eagles, assorted water birds and other critters. It's super handy to have the headphone sets for communication... the captain will stop any time you want a closer/ longer look at something, and can take you pretty far into the backwaters of the swamp. We had the first scheduled tour of the day, and then back to our regularly scheduled vacation! :rotfl:

Enjoy your trip!! :thumbsup2

Is there anywhere near orlando to go noodling? you know like on the show hillbilly handfishing? That show is so exciting, they need a location in Orlando!
