Gatineau considers poutine ban: 'Like banning rainbows and happiness'

ok now banning poutine is just, just, sacriligous!!! This should not be allowed! lol

Terrible!!! I know they've banned it from schools and hospitals, but c'mon, the arenas! Who wants to eat salads at the hockey game? And the kids wanting a poutine after the game will just get it elsewhere. It seems that soon our whole lives will be regimented by the government. (Disclaimer: I eat so healthy, tons of fruits/veggies, little meat, but like everyone else, I love a good poutine now & then)

Funny... I have not thought about or eaten poutine in years. Now all of a sudden I have a craving

Ham Ham, that is downright cruel :rotfl2:

Mmmmmm..... poutine.

I love the comments on that page. I'll be keeping my eyes open for the Clog Arthritis epidemic sweeping the Netherlands!

guess that would remove the tempation for me....:rotfl: they're only like a million trillion WW points  :scared1:

In the article it also said they are also considering banning certain forms of music too, that is so silly. I find it hard to believe that in a liberal country such as ourselves that things like food & music can be banned from certain establishments.

Interesting the government is taking action against the dangers of poutine.

Glad to see smoking, drinking, lotteries and gambling are still OK in Gatineau. They don't cause any problems do they? 'Cause if this stuff was bad they government would ban it and not tax or profit from it...right?

This is just ridiculous. Not all kids need to stay away from high calorie foods, least of all those who regularly participate in sports. Every year in school they do a whole unit on "healthy eating" and my daughter comes home thinking SHE needs to be on a diet. She is a teeny tiny gymnast-type, involved in lots of sports, and needs all the calories she can get -- and her diet does include poutine.

It's not that poutine is just high in calories, it is extremely unhealthy food on many different levels.

Hey, I'm not against eating poutine occasionally (especially Jamie Kennedy's) but I'm shocked that you would think that your daughter, who is involved in sports should be pounding down poutine for the calories. There is a BIG difference between dieting and healthy eating.

Perhaps you misunderstood my post, but I was referring to the health education they have been doing in her school. No child can exist on rice cakes and plain popcorn, although that is the kind of thing they've been pushing at her school since she was in Grade 1. And I never said she was "pounding it down" just that it is allowed in her diet.

Actually, everybody needs some fat in their diet. DD chooses healthy food almost exclusively (totally dislikes pop, fruit punch, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, etc), so much so that without letting her indulge in things like pizza and poutine (the only way she would ever eat fries) she would not only be lacking in calories but also in fatty acids.

Don't worry -- we've been through this with the doctor and the physiotherapist. For her, it's a good thing to not be dieting.

Oh my goodness, Jamie Kennedy's. I think I'm going to have to hit the wine bar for brunch if they have ressies available.

Lucky. I have to settle for dim sum today which was fine until you mentioned brunch at Jamie's.
