Gathering tulle - couple questions?

by hand or with ruffler foot? I think it would get caught on th foot. or zigzag stitch over floss or elastic thread? TIA

If you use the ruffler, fold some gift tissue paper strips around the selvage so that the foot doesn't get caught. You can tear off the tissue as you go.

I say dental floss. If the gatehered area is not going to show there is a technique where you sew the tulle to a piece of ribbion and gather as you go by pushing up the tulle in front of the presser foot. I use this when i am going to attach to a piece of fabric as an underskirt.
