Just wanted to say hi and why I'm on this board.

We have had several trips to Disney World in the past, our last trip was a year ago. since then much has changed and we can't afford such trips. Our finances are quite strained, through a "series of unfortunate events".

A friend was saying just the other day that we probably regret "blowing" all that money on our trips. Not at all! Just the opposite! actually, we did our trips on a budget, drove down, stayed at the all Stars, but had a great time. That money would have just gone for other things. We bought some great memories which are carrying us through some bad times. Just last night we were talking about our trips to Disney, remembering our good times, ended up singing "zip a dee do dah" and waving our napkins!

My advice--go for it--you only get one turn around! You need something besides day-to-day existence to call it a life! Things will get better, I'm already planning a Christmas trip, if things get better we will go, just makes me feel better planning it (of course don't tell the kids until its a reality).

You can't pit a price on magic of happy memories!

How right you are!

I hope you get to go on your Christmas trip. :)

I totally agree with you. I hope your finances turn around. Until then I hope you check out the budget board and learn how to pinch pennies from some of the best so that you can afford to go back as soon as possible.

Good luck with everything in your life. i tell people I NEED to plan the next trip. It gets me through the rough times. Financially, socially, workwise...whatever. So plan, you can always cancel. (Although I will go without buying myself clothes in order to put money in savings, or change in the jar instead of a snack for myself) At times I wonder if I am crazy, because two of the members of my family (DH and 14 yo) are "Disneyed Out", but we go as a family and have fun. So plan away, I always find it inspires me to go to work. Even though I hate my job, and hate hate hate leaving my kids, it is something I need to do, and hey a couple of extras things (like pennies for Disney) do get accomplished too!

I hope things get better in your family, and then on your next trip you will enjoy and appreciate it even more!

Not that it really helps, but a lot of folks are feeling the financial crunch lately. Seems everyone I talk to is pretty much in the same boat. Hopefully it all takes a turn for the better and VERY SOON!

If we were to go bankrupt tomorrow, I would never regret any money we spent on our trips and we have done the downright extravagant at times. Those memories do carry you through the bad times-you know you have something to look forward to when the smoke clears. Good luck to you!

I am always planning a disney trip even when I can't afford it makes me feel better. My husband thinks I am nuts but it keeps me from bothering him about another trip to disney. He loves it as much as I do. Finances have been tight as my husband's company has had very little work this season(construction road) and the outlook is not good. So I took matters into my own hands and got a second job to pay for my fix. He tells me if I can pay for the trip all in advance we can go, so the disney fund is started and yes the second job is worth the end result. We also watch the time of year we go value season or regular season with AP rates help alot also free dining time is a good value

Well said. We are in a similiar situation. We have heard the same types of comments. I could not have articulated this better myself!!! Thank you!!!

I know how you feel about the financial strains been there done that more times then I can say. When you have a husband in the car business, you never know what is going to happen from month to month, especially now. I agree with you 100%. Our trips have been magical, happy memories for us and if I had the choice of having those memories or having millions of dollars, I would take the memories. My kids have loved our trips and talk about them all the time, and that is worth more to me then money. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't turn down a mil if it was offered, but if it meant losing precious family time, no thanks. Our trip 6 weeks ago only happened because my IL's took the whole family down as a gift.

You have heard it a million time but it is true: YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!!! Today could be your last day on this earth...would you be happy with what you have done, seen and accomplished in your life??? If you answered no, then get a move on it!

Refuse to grow up and do what makes you happy in your heart  !!!

I COMPLETLEY agree! DH and I have been starving College students for YEARS now, trying to get MBA's and we really wanted to take DD to Disney World while she was young, we saved and saved and saved all year long so we could afford a nice trip for her and it was so memorable!! When we got home, stuff happend and we were short on cash. And that stunk...but ya know what, noone can take that week away from us. It was so memorable. And we will never forget it!
