Hello, I was wondering how the process of gate checking a stroller works. We will be traveling on American Airlines. Do we get a tag at the check in counter or with the gate agent at the gate? Would the stroller be at baggage claim or be waiting for us on the air bridge when we deplane? Thanks for your help!

Usually you check the stroller at the gate. Go up to the gate agent before boarding and get the tag attached. You then leave it outside the entrance to the plane. It should be there when you get off or it will be shortly after you exit. Make sure you wait for it. It will not be at baggage claim.

This is my experience too!

We flew American last trip and gate checked our stroller. Exactly what the PP said. Get a tag from the gate attendant (get it as soon as you get to the gate), attach it to your stroller or stroller bag, and then leave it outside the airplane door when you board the plane. When you get off the plane, it should be waiting for you or will be up very shortly. It's really easy!

My experience is as above - grab a gate check tag from the gate agent and then leave the stroller at the door to the aircraft before you board.

I wanted to add - be sure to take off anything extra like cup holders or toys and be sure its folded properly and secured. We actually used a small bungie cord as extra protection to keep it closed properly. The baggage workers often won't know how to close a stroller it it opens and will either struggle to close it despite possible damage or just throw it in open if they can't re-close it! Same with toys or added on cup holders that can get caught on other bags - if you plan to fly often a stroller bag may be a good investment.

If we bring a travel bag for the stroller, will it still be waiting for us at the gate, or will we have to go to baggage claim to to get it? I would like to keep the stroller in the bag since past experience has taught me how greasy and dirty my golf club travel bag gets, but I don't want ot have to go to baggage claim to retrieve it...

In my experience if you gate check it it will be waiting at the gate - bag or not!
