Gasparilla's closing for refurb Oct 17 - mid Dec

Didn't they do a major refurb in late 2012 into 2013? We stayed there twice, once during the refurb and again after and it was great--well done and good food. Wondering what they intend to do...

Yes they did & it was a bit inconvenient, IME, especially as I was in Sago Key and walked by the construction walls every day. Wonder why they have to shut down only 4 yr.s later for another redo.

Yes they did as we had hoped to eat there but it opened too late. This year we are there until 26th December so we may make it this year depending on how long they take.

They also were closed for refurb From mid Aug 2015. Very strange.

It is disappointing that Disney gives a day's notice as to the closing. We are headed next week for our first stay at the Grand, and wonder where we will be able to grab breakfast now. We don't want to waste time with a sit down each morning. It says Mizner's and the pool bar? Having been to Mizner's, I can't imagine there will be that many options as compared to Gasparilla's. Does anyone recall options the last time they were closed?

Oh damn. This Isnt good for us  :sad2: It's our first stay at GF and planned on using Gasparilla for a quick bite to eat on several occasions. Especially as we fly from UK and won't arrive at Gf till 9pm we planned on getting something to eat that night. Not happy!!

This really makes me angry. I just canceled reservations at The Plaza, because it made more sense to grab something at Gasparilla's before MNSSHP, since we are staying at the Grand Floridian.

We were there for the closure back in 2012 - we ended up eating breakfast at Kona's Café over at the Poly or Captain Cooks - we then either took the boat from the Poly to the MK or walked to the TTC and got the Monorail for Epcot and DHS -- We tried the Grand Floridian Café, but it was pricier and slower -- and the Pool was even slower than that!

I planned on using it often too. Captain Cooks is a long way to go to grab a quick breakfast and coffee. Don't think that will work for us :( I do think that my room service bill just went up drastically.

We're staying at the Poly in early December and had planned to go to Gasparilla because we don't like the food, the crowds, and the chaos of Captain Cooks. Guess we will need to rethink that. We might try the other options if the menus are appealing. I appreciate the heads up!

We looked at it this way, we were eating way more calories on vacation than we normally do, so we were burning some off -- plus, as I said - we then used Poly transportation as our jump off -- the boat goes right to the MK from the Poly -- if you take it from the GF, you have to stop at the Poly along the way -- you could also take the monorail -- going from the GF it is probably a 5-10 minute ride with the stops at MK and CR.

Well, I can only hope this means the PORFQ food court will be opening soon!

I agree. My problem is the small children in our party. That's a hassle that I would like to avoid on most days. We are planning on going to Poly a couple of times for Dole Whips and once for Trader Sams around 4pm.

What are the other options? How convenient is take out from GF Cafe? Is it a special menu? We are staying in a theme park view room, so going to the beach pool for refillable mugs and snacks may be a bit of a walk as well. I swear I'm not lazy just thinking about the logistics of kids in the morning, and and also in the evenings after walking all day in a park.

Will I receive a letter or email going into details about our options? Those who were there last time, did you receive one?

We had a night planned at Victoria and Alberts during our stay. Our kids were going to go to Gasparilla Grill for dinner. I wonder if they could eat in GF Cafe or 1900 Park Faire by themselves because of this closing. They are 15 and 11.

It's just the Grill itself that's under refurbishment right? This sounds like a dumb question but they leave all the outside tables by the marina? We'd still like to sit there to watch the fireworks one night...

Not a dumb question. Plus, where do I sit if I get a take-out from GF Cafe?

Anyone there who can report back on take-out options?
