I just turned on the local news. They were saying that the school districts figure they have enough gas to last through the rest of this week for buses. They are cancelling away football games/sporting events. They said school will be in session, but they would make a decision by the end of the week as to what they will do about buses next week.

Then, they started talking about stations running out of gas. I wish I'd known this earlier before I drove DD to the other end of the city to drop off a picture! This doesn't sound good.

I saw something about this on another website, but they said they're running low on diesel, not regular gas.

No problem here in Tampa. I gassed up earlier tonight, at $2.73 per gallon.

Thank you! That makes me feel much better. I still have deliveries to make. I was trying to figure how long it would take me to walk around WDW. LOL!

And when I was at the gas station, there was one other car there, filling up. No line.

I think we're witnessing a media/internet-fed scare that's going to lead to artificial shortages. Temporarily.

Peggy:
Don't you make any special deliveries...or if you need to, drop off a couple at ASMo w/ Lumpy and I'll make the rounds when I'm there next weekend if I can help. I have all afternoon on Friday if you need me.

bsnyder,

I agree. The problem is that when 100 cars go to fill up at the some time, sure the station is probably going to run low, but then it gets out that a station ran out with out explaining why and then everyone has to go out.

Okay, I gotta ask this. Who's Lumpy? Because I have a friend with the same name - and it is rather unusual. :)

I filled up yesterday, I think it was $2.79 per gallon. I don't know what it's like today, but if there had been long lines at any gas station, I would have noticed.

The thing that concerns me about gas shortages is people panicking and deciding to steal gas out of other people's vehicles. :earseek: :earseek:

Peg,

I saw very long lines, a few with police directing traffic in Winter Garden and MetroWest this evening.....it's disconcerting to say the least...

Lumpy is the Heffalump that I will be delivering to gypsydoodlebug's daughter when they arrive at WDW.

I'm really hoping that people are just over reacting and that I won't have any problems. Gypsy..I really appreciate your offer. We'll see what happens over the next few days.

Wow, I just got gas this afternoon in SE Orlando for $2.55 and the place was empty, I am so glad I filled up already.

We leave to go to WDW on the 15th. We are driving and planning on going through Birmingham and Atlanta and then down 75 to Orlando. I hate all this talk about gas shortages. I know its stingy thinking of ourselves and our vacation but we have been saving a year since we were ran out by Ivan last year.

I wonder if WDW will refund the money if there is no gas to get there!

I got gas at noon today with no lines. But this evening every gas station I passed had lines running several blocks long. We didn't have this problem when we were hit by the hurricanes last year. Several stations were out of gas this evening.

Most of the stations on the way home tonight from work were out of gas. The Hess at the MK was full of cars at 11:30pm tonight. I have about 1/2 tank and a few gas containers in the garage with gas for the lawn mower.

East of Tampa here. Had to fill up today anyway, and the first station I go to (usually the cheapest in town, but not today) was out of regular unleaded.

Filled up at a Marathon station right up the road from it and paid a lot more than if I'd bothered to fill up on Monday.

But what do you think of our fellow Diser driving to WDW for their vacation ? Would it cause hardship for them to drive ? :moped:

I don't think it will cause hardship. I think the one gas station by me that was out is because they're historically known as being the cheapest on that stretch of road(but if people went 1.5 miles north to I4, they'd find cheaper). DH and I made a note of all the other stations in town.

It'll hurt the wallet, to be sure, but that's anywhere right now.

I've only been down here one year, but one thing that the media DRUMS into your head when a hurricane has even a remote chance of hitting you is that you MUST fill your gas tank. So I think any temporary outages around here might be a direct result of the mantra we keep hearing.

As with anything, I think the chains that supply their own gas (Hess, for instance) will be better equipped to get gas than the smaller companies that buy their gas from wholesalers (Marathon, for one).
