Gas prices effecting anyones trip?

Well I paid over two dollars for the first time last night. It just has me wondering if anyone is changing their travel plans due to this increase. We are going to Washington DC this Summer and while we will not change the trip, I might look a little closer at air fare or train fare just to see what it looks like. Is anyone with a tight budget having to cut something else in the trip out in order to make up the difference in the cost of gas. I admit untill now I never paid much attention to the cost and just filled up my tank. Our local gas station owner told us that they have no idea at this point how high it will go.

I just know I looked at airfare prices today, and they have gone up about $40 round trip...hope it doesn't get any worse!

We were going to drive but found a great rate on airfare and thought it would be the same price so we booked and it might actually save us money if gas prices keep going up. I won't change too many plans for the summer but I do pay attention to where I buy gas now and do shop around.

We are driving next month to WDW and I am still tossing up what will cost more, taking our own SUV (gas guzzler that it is!) or renting a full size and still having to pay for gas. The best deal I saw on a rental was $230 (taxes included).

Our trip to WDW isn't until December, but we are adjusting the amount of money we plan to spend on gas. For us to get from Cleveland to Orlando (we drive), it used to cost $200 round trip in gas. Now that gas is over $2.00/gallon, we plan on increasing our fuel budget to $300 just in case. Any "leftover" money will be put in next year's budget for next year's trip. (Haven't even gone on this year's trip and already thinking about next year's trip. )

We are driving from NH to Orlando next month and I am terrified that we might not have planned enough for the rising gas prices. We are renting a conversion van which is going to take alot more to fill than our mini van and I think gets less mileage but the convienience far outways the costs at this point. Hopefully the gas won't go up too much in the next month.

I drive from Washington D.C. area to Orlando every year. Still cheaper than airfare and also since gas here is expensive (right now $2.45 for premium) it gets better and better as we go south.

We maybe going to DC this summer but we are planning to fly on our next trip to Orlando. We are going in Jan and weather is sketchy in the midwest then and it can get icier the further south you drive. We too shop around for the best price, which is usually on the way to my in-laws a savings of 5-10 cents per gallon.

It's 1050 miles each way from our house in NJ to our house near WDW.

We get about 35 miles to the gallon average with both of our cars. That's $30 r/t more than what we paid a year ago. $30 when you're talking about a trip to WDW is inconsequential.

BTW--gas at the 7-11 near the North entrance to MCO was $2.079 gallon a week ago today. In Clermont near my house it was a few cents less.

We are starting to worry about the rising gas prices. Our trip is in May. We are driving from DFW to Orlando in our RV that gets 6 miles per gallon. OUCH! Oh well, at least the destination is worth it, right?

We were planning on driving for trip from Pittsburgh in May. But, with Southwest's great airfare, we decided to fly. Only $115 including taxes. We figured by the time we paid for gas, 2 hotel nights (one each way) and food, it would cost about the same. I also got a great deal on a rental car (around $100 for a week). Hard to pass up with 3 little kids!

Well lets just say when I found air tickets for $147 total pp I jumped on them. I didn't want to figure out the cost of gas to get from OH to WDW!

We go to Florida every April and June to visit family anyway, but this year I bought a minivan so we could drive and save some money. However, the way I've been figuring it, flying will still be cheaper. I'm the only driver, so I'm not sure I can make the drive in 2 days - which means hotel costs for at least one night, most likely two, each way. I've even considered sleeping in the van, but I still would have to pay for a campsite - and for the cost, I'd rather have the hotel's shower and bed! Then there's the cost of food on the trip, and now the rising gas prices. Arrgh. What will probably happen is that I'll dither over making a decision for so long that the $180 fares will go up and I'll be forced to drive anyway!

Our Town & Country sucks gas, so we had briefly considered flying when SW released their discounted fares. We would have saved about $60/person on our tickets, but it was still more expensive for the 5 of us to fly. Deciding to drive was fine with me, since our last experience flying with the kids was a NIGHTMARE.

I just checked on Mapquest that to drive from my former home in Cleveland Heights to Orlando is just over 1000 miles. If I get 20 MPG highway, I'll burn 100 gallons of gasoline round trip. If a gallon of gasoline costs me 50 cents more than it did a year ago, my trip budget increased a total of $50 (if 70 cents more per gallon, then it'd be an increase of $70 to the bottom line). I know what tight budgets are like, but I can't imagine $50 more or thereabouts would prevent people from traveling far to Disney World, given all the other considerable expenses involved with such a trip. I'd rather have that $50 or $70 in my wallet, too, but spending that amount won't stop me from going in the first place.

And by the way, I'm not "picking on" anything said by the poster I'm quoting, I just thought it was cool that he/she is from Northeast Ohio.

It's affecting me more that you realize. I am a courier driver, and I fill up my van every day. So as you can guess, the price of gas is cutting into my profits, thus cutting into the money I can save for our next trip to WDW. But we will still be going, no matter what. Nothing will stop us from visiting our most favorite place in the whole world.

I just clicked on this thread to get a general idea of petrol (gas) costs in the U.S. because we might be hiring a car for a few days of our holiday in WDW. Wow! I understand that a price increase is always a worry but I just need to share that I'm shocked at how cheap petrol is in the U.S. *compared* to here. I know that doesn't matter in the general scheme of things and it's all relative, but hey it might make you all feel better. lol! Here in Ireland we pay minimum 96 cent (that's euro cent) per litre. There's 4.55 litres to a gallon so that works out as 4.37 (euro) per gallon - that is roughly 5.70 U.S. dollars per gallon of petrol.

We are ripped off!

So next time you're worried about filling that tank just think of us misfortunate folk across the sea hording our pennies to meet these petrol costs (I'm half-joking - some weeks it's tough getting the bobs together to fill the tank) !!!
