DROPPING!! On Saturday I filled up at $3.12 per gallon. Sunday I noticed it was down to $2.99. And now today, it was down to $2.89!!! I am so happy for this to happen now that DH is home. All summer it was just me and my car, and now that DH is back and will be driving to work (about 45 minutes) this is the break we needed!

Anyone else seeing a big decrease?

Our gas was at $3.03 and is now down to $2.78. They released some of the federal oil reserves when the BP pipeline broke, that is the reason for the decrease.

They drop for a couple of weeks and then rise right up again. Don't get too excited just yet. ;)

Must be nice.. here in Cali were are still at $3.23 :furious:

It's $2.85 here. Don't worry it'll rise back up just in time for the Labor Day Holiday.

Go figure, every since they announced the pipeline problem prices have been coming down here. $2.69 a gallon at Wal Mart for the past week.

Ours started dropping a penny at a time every few days around the time the news broke about the pipeline, which I thought was odd. As of this morning, it was $2.89.

We haven't seen much in dropping prices. It's gone down less than 10 cents in the past month. Hopefully we'll soon see some more significant drops, but as others said, with the long weekend coming up, they'll probably go up again.

When we were in NJ last week, we did see the prices drop about 6 cents during the week. But for some reason, the stations up here near me don't seem to drop as often as some other places in the country.

What was the pipeline problem with BP? Boy, I must've been asleep for a while!

Wonderful, isn't it? I just wonder how long it will last though.

I paid $2.91 on Tuesday. Oh, I often reminisce about the days when gas was less than 50 cents a gallon. I can remember the "gas wars" and sometimes it was even 20 cents a gallon. You could fill your tank for $2!! *sigh*

::yes:: I agree.

When I filled up yesterday it was $2.87. I can't understand why it never went back down after the hurricanes last year. Maybe the oil company's like that 100% raise they got in their pockets.

Actually the main reason is Americans have finally cut back on their driving habits, to an extent. This has been on the news recently and I'm glad to see it. It's all supply and demand. The releasing of the oil reserves helps out very little due to the fact it will take a month at least. for that oil to go through the refineries and be processed into gasoline.

I glad to see that we are finally cutting back some as a nation and I noticed the used car lots in my area are loaded up with older SUV models. I saw the low price on a Ford Excursion in that lot and they had all the big monsters priced low as well. I don't see how anyone could afford to fill up a gas tank on a truck that holds over 40 gallons, like the Excursion does.

BP needed to shut down a section of their Alaskan Pipeline because of corrosion in the pipes that was causing a leak.

Ouch! I was surprised yesterday when I saw $2.75 here in the St. Louis metro area. Sad, but that price almost seemed like a bargain!

We're down 40-50 cents a gallon here since the atty general ordered the oil compaines to hand over records to investigate gouging. I have seen 2.59 in Lexington today. It sounds like some of the large futures funds have pulled money out of oil futures, further driving the prices down. Demand is also down to an extent.

Wow! I wish this would happen across the country so that we could all see some relief. You can't convince me that there isn't some price gouging going on after we see these oil companies with profits increased by billions over last year.

Price per barrel is down due to investor concerns over the oil field, middle east, Iran's incentive package to stop uranium production. That is most likely why gas has gone down. It isn't all *just* supply and demand and I have a hard time believing our gas consumption rose so sharply that gas went up $2/gallon in just 6 years. There are other factors.
