I don't think everyone here is whining about how Katrina made the gas go up. It was happening way before Katrina. As a matter of fact, before Katrina even hit, a friend of my husbands is a manager in a local gas station & he had told my husband to expect to see it raise to over $3.00 by the end of the week....and that was before Katrina hit. I feel your pain not knowing where your friends are. I know I sort of felt the same when Charley hit us last year & all people were doing was complaining on how Charley ruined their vacation, not stopping to think that they were going home to a house..some of us here had none to go home to ..they were too damaged. I know Charley was nothing compared to Katrina's damage. Katrina hit with winds of 145, Charley hit with 140. The difference here is the storm surge & the flooding from the levies (can't spell it). We here in Fl didn't have that. My city was predicted to have had somewhere in the range of 12 - 16 ft storm surge, my house's elevation is 7-8 ft. I would have been flooded out. By they time they told us, it was too late to go anywhere. I can honestly say, I know exactly how they felt when they found out about the flooding. I thank God it didn't happen. It is terrible what has happend with Katrina. The worst part is, hurricane season isn't even finished! We still have the peak month... September to deal with. We cannot change what has happened. We have to look & learn from this. We learned a lot from Andrew. Bldg codes were changed. I think our country needs too look at how much growth they allow along a coast for one thing. New Orleans was below sea level, our country should have realized that it would flood. How could it not have? While listening to my local news last night, they are talking about Katrina and then the next thing they are talking about is how the city of Ft Myers is allowing some contractor to start building high rise bldgs along the riverarminnie said:And I think it's *&^%)*& that you are whining about the price of gas when there are people in New Orleans who have no home, food, clothing, jobs, etc.
I don't know where 10% of my friends in New Orleans are. And all you can think about is that you may have to pay an extra $10-20 to fill up your tank because of this disaster.
Put it into perspective.
...can they not see what they are doing? Please do not take offence with anyone here about the gas. As I first said, I dont' think we are saying the price increase is all because of this disaster. It is just a part of what is going on.....
I hope you hear from your friends soon... by the way... I can empathize with you there too, I remember not hearing from a friend of mine for 3 weeks after 9/11 & her company was in one of the towers! Turned out she was fine, not in the bldg that day but couldn't reach me to tell me. Please let us know when you hear on your friends... hang in there... it will get better....
