Well I might need to add a little extra to our gas budget for February. Georgia and Florida are two of seven states that are upping their gas taxes on January 1st.:headache:

I'm with you, I live in Georgia and drive to Florida at least twice a year. Heck, I may need to retire early just to save on gas going back and forth to work since I live out in the country.

It seems like Georgia is just raising it's gas tax every chance they can. I'm about 35 minutes from the Tennesee border and a gallon up there is always around 25 cents cheaper.

The prices around here (Athens) can vary 20 cents from one side of town to the other. Thank goodness for Kroger points.

Better start shopping around and buying a Tesla. No need to worry about gas prices then... :)

I live in Michigan! Our gas tax is going up $0.07/gal to a whopping $0.263/gallon. On top of that, our vehicle registration costs are going up by 20%!

We are driving to HHI in April so I will definitely have to rework our gas budget. I remember a few years ago when it cost $120 to fill my Suburban. I was so excited when it dropped back down to manageable at $60, but it looks like I will be facing $80-$100 per fill-up again:headache:

At least here in Georgia if you buy a new car you pay your registration all at once and only pay like $20 every year after that.

Our vehicle registrations last year were about $300 for both of our vehicles...a 2004 Suburban and a 2007 TrailBlazer.

PA will have the highest Gas tax in the country starting 1/1/17. The TAX will be increasing by $.07/gallon. Our tax will now be almost $.80/gallon. Tolls are also being increased on the Turnpike.

even with the increase, i bet you guys still dont pay as much of Californians pay... haha

Gas tax in FL and GA is going up less than a penny a gallon. For me that's about a $7/year increase (although taxes aren't going up in my state). Doesn't seem like a big deal.

Living in Georgia, I didn't think the gas tax was a big deal but I'm hoping other people do so they aren't out driving as much.
I can't believe how bad the traffic has gotten in my area - even in the mornings when nobody used to be out running errands.
And with all the houses being built around us by builders buying areas that used to be all wooded, it's going to get worse.

Not worries. They will implement variable rate tolling on all of the freeways so they can balance supply and demand. That will keep traffic moving and ensure that those Tesla / Nissan Leaf drivers pay their fair share.

@GaSleepingBeautyFan - not sure where you live - I think Atlanta area, which is where I live - and I echo your sentiments...

I'm only 30 miles away from Atlanta and used to drive into Buckhead every day for work. An hour to an hour and a half one way. Ugh. My husband still drives into Midtown every day for work but he has strange hours so he avoids the worst of the rush hour traffic.

It's all the side streets and subdivision areas that is getting to me - too many infill houses being built - we've got two smaller subdivisions (40 houses each) getting built within 5 minutes from us and another smaller plot of land that originally just had one house on it sold but it looks like it's going to be subdivided into more. The roads just clog up - and unless the county is willing to buy houses, the roads can't be widened either.

I love my area but it is so frustrating driving wise some days.

My sister said the gas tax where she lives in California was .42 a gallon.

Remember in 2015 when we voted on this, and it became one the biggest margin sided loss in Michigan history? I do, the Michigan government doesn't seem to care because they passed it anyway. At least they threw out the sales tax increase.

Gas tax in Washington State is 49.4 cents a gallon. Many people are avoiding paying though by buying Teslas and Nissan Leafs.

The backward state of Kentucky hasn't conformed to the requirements for drivers licenses yet. If they don't do it this year, we will need to purchase passports to fly on domestic flights. Also, our car taxes are ridiculous. In my area many gindca way to register their cars in Ohio which has a flat tax on vehicles.
