Don't get mad at me for bringing this up but the seasons will change and it will get colder outside. I didn't say snow. Snow. Oops, said it, my bad.
The DIS is a big world there has to be a tech out there who can answer this.
I have a Lennox gas insert fireplace. Not a long story here, we bought the house almost 3 months ago and hadn't used it yet. The blower is dead, and not just a hum we're talking a very loud angry growl, squirrel cage is frozen solid. With the power cut it spins freely. Ever seen this? I know I have to get a new blower but this baffles me.

Did you have a home inspection when you purchased the house? Did the previous home owners leave you any maintenance records concerning the gas fireplace?

Not trying to be difficult, but a gas fireplace should have a yearly maintenance check and cleaning. If your furnace is also gas, I suggest you call your gas company and find out if they have any maintenance records concerning your fireplace. If it hasn't been maintained, and you have no home inspection information--it is possible that the problem could be major, and the fireplace has not worked for a number of years.

Speaking as a home owner with a gas furnace and a gas fireplace, I would not suggest a DYI solution for any gas appliance.
