Not Disney related at all, but you guys should have the answer for me. My ds and his wife are driving up from Tampa, to Mass, to spend Christmas with us. I wanted to give them a gas card, for Christmas, to help with their expenses...but not sure if any one gas card is going to be better. So, those of you that make the drive, which gas stations do you see most frequently???

Why not give them a preloaded Visa or mastercard and they can get gas wherever they are

Well, Shell appears to have fifteen stations between Ft. Myers and Worcester; Shell actually offers a route planner on their website.

Some brands of preloaded (prepaid) Master cards and Visa cards have idiosyncrasies when used at automated gas pumps. Part of this is because the gas station system may authorize a larger amount than the amount of gas you may be planning to buy and the card might be rejected unexpectedly.

You would want to find out what idiosyncrasies there are (shown in the instructions), or even buy and try one of that kind of preloaded card yourself before buying one for your DS. One such card (was part of a merchandise rebate) required that I go to the attendant and pretend i was using cash instead of insert the card directly into the pump.

I'd consider Wawa and Sunoco. I think the best states to buy gas between Ma and Fl are NJ, Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. I like to stop at one of two Wawas for gas around Richmond when I'm driving south from my home in NJ. There's one off of exit 48b on I-95 and one off of I-295, exit 15b. Great place to get gas at a good price and to get some munchies. The stations on the NJ Turnpike are Sunoco. As mentioned in another post, there are some Shell stations on the way as well and that could be a third option. If you know how far they can go on a tank of gas, you can definitely plan a stop for them at a cheap gas station. I use www.virginiagasprices.com to look at gasoline maps and pricing for Virginia (replace the state name with a different state name to find pricing for that state).

You can simply go to www.gasbuddy.com which is the parent site for the different sites you mention. I use their free app for iPhone and love it. I use it every time I need gas to find the cheapest station in my local area or when I am on the road.

When you use a gas card, be sure to pump it manually. The last time I used one I had the gas pump handle set on automatic and it clicked off before the card was completely used up. There are probably a lot of people like me who don't check the price when they know they're at the end of a card (or never keep track at all), and just assume the card has run out when the gas clicks off. I know that this also happens when I prepay, but I didn't think it would when I use a gas card.
