Gas and looters..

In my opinion the media is a big problem. They try to create the news instead of reporting the news. Gas has come down this morning in the DFW mid cities area this morning from $3.29 - $2.99. Yesterday my wife had to go the the Ruston, Louisiana area. I was concerned about the availability of gas in Louisiana and told her to fill up in Texas. Gas was $2.82 on the interstate in Longview, Texas and in Shreveport, Louisiana it was $2.76 and no lines at either place. This idiots on TV are only addressing the crooks that are gouging the folks and so idiots bring out other idiots that gouge the folks. I have emailed and called distributors in the DFW area and asked why the gas in the tanks at stations can go up 50 cents and no gas was added or changed at the storage tanks at the stations. I was hung up on twice and have not received any response to my emails. The thugs shooting up the place, looting plasma tvs, guns, ammo etc are no better than the terrorist! They should be considered the same and taken care of accordingly. The great folks on the Gulf Coast are in my prayers but the nation would be better off with out the thugs causing the disruptions. I do not care one bit about the political correctness of this post. All of the PC whiners need to get some starch in their britches and help the coast get on their feet.

I totally agree! It's one thing to go into the stores and get food and water, they NEED that and at this point I wouldn't consider that looting, it's just trying to survive. The stealing of TV's and electronics is ridiculous! You have no electricity, let alone a house, so what the heck do you need a TV for. There are people dying and thugs still are only thinking about what they can steal. It's giving everyone down there a bad rap, when it's only a minority that's doing this. I hope the relief gets there soon to the people who REALLY need it.

I totally agree. The media is a huge part of the problem. They always focus on the negative because that is what draws viewers. :sad2:

Up here in Frisco and Plano, today's prices . . . 3.09 for regular, 3.19 for the middle grade and 3.29 for the high grade. I need to get to Euless! :rotfl:

People including evacuees probably should not go into striken areas except in large convoys. There are looters and marauders who have gotten into the suburbs and outlying areas, waiting to pounc on you and carjack you.

IMHO, the media made our government take action. With the lack of communication during this disaster, the media was the only way for people to know how horrific the situation was. Finally people are being evacuated and given water & food. I'm glad they showed this - who would have known???

I went to town yesterday (VERY small town up here in the mountains) and fully expected to find gas for a minimum of $3.99 a gallon.. Was pleasantly surprised that it had only risen to $3.59.. I didn't get any (was in my DD's car) but with a little luck, when I go over again on Tuesday it will have dropped a bit.. :flower:

I believe that the major gas problems are to the east of New Orleans since the pipelines that run that way were disrupted. I agree that the press should have pointed that out though.

Amen to you!

I live in south Louisiana and I can't believe the stuff they are putting out on the national news. So much of the "bad" stuff you are hearing is not true or greatly exaggerated. Louisiana residents are wonderful and are going above and beyond what is necessary. There are those criminals who are taking advantage of the tragedy, but they are a small % of us.

As to gas. In the Baton Rouge area, prices are supposed to frozen (although some are taking advantage). However, it is very difficult to get gas. We waited in line for almost an hour yesterday and they ran out before I could get some. Lines are very long if a gas station has any, but this is mainly because our metro area population was 700,000 people on Monday and over a million today. We are positive that things will start to get better. I am proud of our residents and how things are being handled.

Also, I forgot to mention this earlier, but I want to thank all those states that have offered assistance and to those individuals who are helping. We are so appreciative of all you are doing.

You know, J&L, I was hoping that someone form down that way would be able to get some normal eyewitness word to us.

If you listen to the news up here, you would think there were gangs of thugs overtaking all of Louisiana & Alabama, for goodness sakes!!!

Now, I know that there are always going to be scum in the world, and people who will take advantage of any situation, but I oculdn't imagine that everyone down that way was running around with guns, shooting, raping, and pillaging.

I swear, I don't know why we Americans take every word the media utters a Gospel.

The other day, my father went to get gas. He said there was a line, and folks were filling up containers and everything else, and some folks were topping off their tanks. Why??? Because "oh my God, they said on TV that the price of gas was going to go through the roof!!!!!" So let's all panic and create more of a shortage because now there is a sudden HUGE demand when there is an interruption of some gas sources due to the hurricane.

If everyone just doesn't drive their car for stupid reasons, and gets gas in a nromal fashion...when they need it...it will be fine, the prices will even out.

That's pretty much my take on it these days as well.. My car has been sitting here with a half a tank of gas in it (maybe a little less) for well over a week now.. I have no intentions of "rushing out" to top it off until I actually NEED the gas next week to go home for a few days.. Maybe I'll even be "rewarded" with a lower price by then.. :flower: If not - well - "it is what it is.."

Our gas prices are 40 cents a gallon higher than they were last weekend. It was highter than that but our governor cut the gas tax temporarily as of midnight last night. There are some gas stations here that are out of gas right now.

THere might be only one looter with one gun on the loose in Saucier (not far from Biloxi and Gulfport, Mississippi) or in Kenner (suburb of New Orleans) but if you were almost back to survey your half destroyed home there and he accosted you, you'd be toast.

I topped off my car because I thought I saw a good price on a gas station and thought the price would go higher by the next day.
