...is a neighbor of mine! Actually about 5 miles away, but I never knew it! Remember him and his group The Union Gap? They had hits like "Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon" and "Young Girl Get Out Of My Life"? Totally cool...
Turns out he lives in a subdivision about 5 miles north of me in Palm Harbor, FL. He married a girl from around here and her Dad is a dentist in Clearwater and her two brothers are police officers in Tampa.
He's going to be performing locally at Ruth Eckerd Hall this weekend along with Peter Noone with Herman's Hermits and Rob Grilll and the Grass Roots.
Gary wrote a new song that will appear on a soon-to-be-released recording by Paul Revere and the Raiders. Their album sales will benefit Vietnam War veterans. The song isabout Gary's father, who was a prisoner ofwar during WWII. His mother "thought he was dead".
The newspaper article said Puckett hopes to release "Lost Tapes" a recording of some songs he wrote in the mid-1970's with his broher, David.
How cool is that? I never knew he lived that close!
