Does anyone use one? Do you like the results? Is it worth the $$?

Any advise you can offer me is appreciated!

thanks,
marie

I really like mine. The results are really good. I believe that it is worth the money.

You could also try to build one yourself. There are many tutorials on the net. Just do a web search. I knew someone who build a diffuser from that craft foam and a rubber band.

Again, I am pleased with my diffuser.

I bought one of the knock offs, and quite honestly haven't been too impressed. But, that could be user error or the fact that it is not the true Fong product. I have a Demb Flip-It that I really like and it folds pretty flat to fit in my camera bag.

I have a clear Fong (50 bucks with DVD I think) for my Nikon sb800. I use it for my D200 and it works better than the stock speedlight diffuser. They can weigh a bit more though and the size of a small tupperware bowl. I noticed I angle my speedlight from straight (180 position) to say, 45-degrees, the speedlight can fall to the 90-degree angle... or at least mine does. it may be a bit loose from the years of service. It works best in the straight up 180 position.

Regardless, they are very good, bounce light great, red-eye is gone, and I like it so much, I just purchased on for my step-dad's light. It is a good way to add light to a poorly lit environment.

The little softboxes that fit onto speedlights work okay too. all of these ideas are about 40 bucks... you can make your own too. google "strobist" for some good ideas

hope this helps. :surfweb:

I have the Lightsphere II Inverted Dome diffuser. Its the clear version. I use it 95% of the time I use my SB-600 Speedlight flash. I like the way it cuts down on the harsh light from the flash and the colors seem to pop more. It is especially useful when holding the camera in portrait orientation. You can turn the flash up and the diffuser spreads the light around like the camera is in the landscape orientation. Much better light distribution this way.

To me, it was worth the $50.

Thanks for the info!! I think I'm going to go ahead and order one.
I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

Thanks again
marie

I'm skeptical of all these fancy flash gizmos.

I they are so great, why doesn't Canon or Nikon offer them as an option?

Instead, both Canon and Nikon *do* recomend use of a bounce card, which is built-in to both the high-end Canon and Nikon flashes. For the low-end models, you can make a bounce card with a white index card and a rubber band.

The 3rd. party flash options remind me of fancy fish lures, designed more to attach fisherman than fish.

the same reason they don't offer filters or any other small accessory, they make their money off of the main tools, why bother with the little stuff..

I have 2 gary fong diffusers and they work great, they do a better job of diffusing the light en a more even pattern than a card does..
