I love my Garmin Forerunner 205. I use it every day. But just recently it started misbehaving. When I place it in its cradle and try to receive history the PC says it can't connect or can't locate the device. :guilty: :sad1:

Has anyone had this problem? Is there a solution? I just ordered a replacement cradle and a new USB cable. Although, I doubt they are the problem since it seems to be charging fine.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks.

One thing I can think of quickly is perhaps the cable or socket has some corrosion on it. The combination of sweat, humidity and metal will cause this. We have this problem with ours as well.

To solve it we just wiggle the cable a little and see if it will connect easily. Every once and a while, I spray it with an electronics cleaner that eats corrosion. You should be able to get some at Radio Shack or someplace similar.

I will guess that the data and power are on separate pins which would let it charge but not give data.

Bill's recomendation is the first thing to check. I use a pencil eraser to "brighten up" the contact points on the back of the device.

If the contacts are clean and your computer still cannot find the device, try downloading and installing the most current version of Training Center. It's worked for me in the past.

Also, if your Garmin starts acting wacky during a run, delete some of your stored histories.

I had a similar problem with mine. Mine happened after I updated to al the current software and chipsets. The problem was that the old data on the unit was not compatible with the program update. I had to erase all the runs that were stored in the unit. After I did that everything worked fine. Have you tried to use Motionbased. My still worked with that so no data was "lost" but it would not communicate properly with Garmin training center until I cleared out all the old data. I hope this helps.
