Garmin Forerunner 305 - Map Questions

I just purchased the Forerunner and have a few questions from those of you who may use it often. Can you download your 1/2 marathon courses from somewhere? I am currently signed up for one in WI and then the 1/2 January marathon at Disney. I would love for it to know where I was going and maybe even tell me when a water station was coming up.

Yes and no. You can download a bread crumb type map that will work on the 305 (bread crumb meaning a line on the screen that will bend and turn when you are at or near a bend or turn). It works kind of well, unless there are lots of turns.

It will not import any extra information such as water stops or street information. You literally follow a line.

To download, you need to create the course in something like MapMyRun. Then you can down load from the web onto your computer and upload onto the Garmin.

I use the feature a lot for long distance bike riding and trail runs. I do not use it in a race as I would not have the extra distraction.

I've never done this with my 305 but Garmin does offer free Training Center Software where you are able to create a course to mark important points along your route. Good luck.
