Garment bags

I am not sure if this is really the right spot, but going to start here. We have used and abused a rolling garment bag for the last 20 years for flights and multiple cruises, but it has finally bitten the dust and needs to be replaced. What are you traveling with for suits/dresses that don't fold into a regular suitcase? Are most of you using a foldable garment bag and it holding up to the luggage hander abuse, or do we need to go for the heavy duty rolling bag again. Just curious as the soft/folding are about 10 to 1 when I search them, so maybe I am overthinking. Or do you just fold them up and send out to laundry once on the ship?

I only take dresses that travel well. DH takes one suit and a dress shirt on the cruise that we send to be steamed on the first night.

I haven't done it for the cruise, but I do have a folding bag that I use for other travel when needed. For the cruise, I would just send it out to be steamed if I really needed to (but I don't pack anything quite that fancy).

I have a Samsonite garment bag that I got at the Navy Exchange in 1988, still trucking, though a bit frayed on the edges. They have a nice rolling one that I've eyed as a replacement. It's not cheap, but at the outlet it's a steal. I've always used garment bags for suits, dresses and other nice clothing as well as for shoes. Love 'em
