Gardening, How's It Going?

Last year, after Halloween, I placed 2 pumpkins in our "retired" garden patch. We have a pumpkin patch now! Didn't even plant them. It's pretty cool. One of the pumpkins was orange and the other was white. There is one huge pumpkin growing, that will probably be orange and a few smaller ones (that seem to be white). So, I've been weeding from time to time. And watering.

We had a watermelon a few weeks ago. I cleared an area and planted the seeds from that. There has been a lot of growth there too.

What are you growing?

I'm growing a lot of hot peppers and they are doing well. The actual peppers are just starting to come out. I have lots of herbs. Some are doing well, and some are not. The different basils are great... cilantro is not.

Tomatoes are hit and miss.

We mostly have flowers, but my husband did put in a strawberry patch this year. He put in two varieties - one was supposed to be everbearing so we should have had berries all summer. We had a lot of berries for a few weeks but we had 40 days of rain in a row so eventually the weather did them in and I picked the last of them last week. So delicious while we had them though.

As for the flowers, my beebaum finally opened toward the end of last week, as did my hollyhocks. Everything is running so late this year! Last year we had hummingbirds every day and lots of butterflies. This year we have just started seeing the hummingbirds and I have only seen one butterfly.

our pumpkins are taking over the neighborhood!! We have carrots growing nicely and the tomatoes are going great guns. All of my perennials are doing very well also. DD's sunflower is growing a few inches a day so it may break last year's record of 9 feet. At least the plants are happy with this crazy weather!
