I'm trying to look for some handy late breakfast places. We are staying at the Boardwalk Villa's and I was wondering if I could get opinions on the Garden Grove Cafe at the Swan. Is this a table service or counter service??? Any opinions on the service/food etc.???

We had breakfast here twice this week. It's a "sitdown". On the weekends it's a character breakfast with Goofy and Pluto. It's not bad. They have a buffet everyday and some things do change slightly. There's a chef in the middle of the buffet area that makes all of the eggs/omelettes, etc.

Yesterdayon the buffet, they had egg sandwiches, bacon, sausage, cinammon rolls, potatoes, oatmeal plus all of the cold foods in addition to that (cereal, bakery goods, bagels, fruit, etc). If you don't want the buffet you can order off the menu, but the buffet is probably the best "value".

I personally prefer FRESH over at the Dolphin. It is also a buffet set-up but the chefs make the major things right there as you wait. They have some specialty items like this past week they had pumpkin french toast, chocolate chip pancakes or you can request anything else they may have on hand. They also make the egg items fresh and they have other standard buffet items like bacon, potatoes, oatmeal, baked goods, fruit, yogurt, etc. If you're staying at the BWV you should consider giving FRESH a try. :thumbsup2

ITA - Fresh has a more comprehensive buffet. It is one of our Top 3 breakfasts in WDW & it would be very convienent to you at BWV.

The one thing about Garden Grove that I like over any other WDW restaurants at breakfast is that they offer a Japanese style breakfast. That means I can get Miso soup for breakfast. I usually order that & a bowl of cheese grits with bacon & garlic.
However, I assume I am in the minority with my taste in breakfast food :rotfl:

Oh, BTW - when we were at GG last Dec., they had made to order pancakes for sure & I think MTO omelets.

Thanks, we have tried Fresh and while we did like it, we heard that since then the menu has changed to more the "usual" Disney buffet so we have never gone back. Perhaps this was not true. It's been a few years right after it opened that we were there. We're going to Spoodles, Yachtclub Galley and Olivia's for sure.

We tried Spoodles once and didn't like it much, but have heard so many good reviews on the breakfast that I'm willing to try it again, Yachtclub Galley we've tried once and the buffet was good, I'd like to try ordering from the menu to see what they have, and Olivia's we LOVE. Our favorite is the Sweet Potato Hash, YUM!!! And you can't beat the astmosphere and service. We might also go to AK early, DH can ride EE, and then we'll eat at Tusker House. Never been there.

My sister and friend who were coming with, all of a sudden have an important engagement come up, so our whole vacation has changed dramatically from, "doing bunches" to "easy and relaxed", so sleeping in sounds really great. Thanks for the info. I'll add it to my list and maybe consider giving Fresh another try.
