I have given up on holding yard sales -- in my neighborhood, people really DO want something for nothing. For example, I have had Christmas audiotapes marked 50cents and people will spend valuable time trying to get me to drop them to 25cents or even 10. I have others who will grab at items on my neatly organized tables and make a giant pile of things and offer me "five dollah". When I say, "you have about $50 worth of merchandise there" I get the "what? you don't want to sell to me?" Meanwhile, potential buyers have drifted away. And on and on. I no longer have the energy and time for that kind of negotiating.
I recently "discovered" a chain of kids re-sale shops known as KiDtoKiD. They pay more than a yard sale would net (me) and less than ebay but it is so much easier. I made $60 cash for two Rubbermaid tubs full of clothes, videotapes, wooden puzzles, Barbies and books. Anything that doesn't sell, I give to charity to bless someone else.
