Gap Credit Card--Yes? No? Get online or in-store?

Greetings Wise Budget Boarders,

I realized yesterday when I was using the FF discount to shop at the Gap that I do a lot of my clothes shopping there. Usually the sales clerk offers the Gap credit card (although yesterday they didn't) and I always say no. I pay in cash, so the cc seems superfluous.

But I started wondering if there are significant advantages to having the card. Since I'd pay it off the day I made the charges anyway, whatever the interest rate is, is irrelevant to me--unless they start charging interest the second you make the purchase!

So, if you have a Gap cc, I'd appreciate it if you could say what's good about it, what you like and don't like, etc. Also, do they offer a different set of initial discounts/coupons/whatever if you apply online as opposed to doing it at the store?

Thanks a bunch for any info and insights!

If I'm not mistaken, it's free shipping from gap.com every Tuesday for cardholders.
Oh, and if you spend $100 on the card you get a $10 certificate to use in the store or online.

I think there are more benefits, but I can't remember. I don't use my card very often anymore. (trying to cut down on the spending!)

My sister has a Gap cc. I believe she gets coupons. I know she offered an extra coupon to me one time, but I couldn't use it because it was only if you used your Gap cc as payment.

If you do a lot of clothes shopping at the Gap and you can pay off your credit card balance every month, then I would recommend getting one. I would get one in store when they offer the highest percentage off if you are doing a big shop. Most of the time it's 15% off. They might have 20% off right now. You should get a packet of coupons for Banana Republic and Old Navy on the spot. You earn 5% in rewards coupons that they'll send you. You get other random coupons throughout the year, too. Every Tuesday you get 10% off when you use your card. If you qualify for the Gap Silver card then you get free shipping online and free shipping from other stores. I have the Banana Republic luxe card and I love it. I would never recommend it to anyone though who can't pay off their credit card every month.

I love my Gap card and use it every time I make a purchase from Gap or Old Navy stores. I've received 3 $10 coupons in the past to use in their stores. Last time I used it was online to purchase some clearance dresses for my DD7 and she loves them.

I went into the store and was disappointed with their lack of customer service at the door and elsewhere in the store. I walked in there and was wondering where everybody was.:confused3 I walked into Justice and there were 2 girls at the front of the store asking if we needed assistance. So we bought stuff at Justice this round.

I'm hoping that was just an off day or something, because DD7 loves their clothes. She needs to try everything on because she has a weird body type. She mainly wears skirts because of this and they had nothing.

I would just caution that when I worked at Old Navy (owned by the same parent company with the same policies) 5 or so years ago when I was in college, you couldn't pay your credit card bill in the store. We had many angry customers that didn't understand why they couldn't pay in the store. It was the same way in GAP, and I'm not sure if it's changed, but if you're the type of person, like me, that needs to pay it immediately or risk forgetting, I thought you may appreciate that information !

The interest on those cards, regardless of your credit history, is astronomical. Do you have a Disney Rewards Card ? That may be worth some investigation !

Best of luck !

I have a Gap card. I've had it for a few years. I don't use it too often, but the rewards on it are pretty good. I get a $10 certificate a few times a year. Here's the benefits:

*10% off on Tuesdays
*Free shipping on orders over $100
*$15 off $60 during your bday month
*interchangeable charging at Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and the outlets.
*Double rewards earning periods a few times a year (ie, $1 counts as $2)

As long as you pay off your balance, it's a good deal. I'm not a fan of store credit cards, but I've been pleased with this card. I do like to shop for my kids at Gap and (more so) Old Navy, so this just rewards me for money I'd be spending anyway.
