Hello,

DH and I are going to get DS 5 and DD 6 Gamecube for Xmas. For those of you who already gamecube, what would you recommend we buy with it. Do you have to buy the joysticks seperate and how many memory cards do you need to get? Also, any game recommedations for kids would be great.

Thanks :)

I don't remember if the a controller came with it or not.

Get 1 memory card to start with

Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkeyball, Starfox Adventures Super Smash Brothers Melee. There's a new Zelda game coming out before Christmas. (The Disney Magical Mirror game stunk)

Well I would say RENT games before you buy them.

Super Smash is one to buy for sure. We have Pikmin dd loved that one. Luigis Mansion is fun too.

The new ones that are out like StarFox (very fun) but you will have to sit down and play with them as you have to be able to read to play. Super Mario Sunshine, Animal Crossing is kinda not as fun as I thought it would be, definetly renters before buying.

Oh and by each of them their own memory card.

I think one controller came with it, we bought a second one. Memory stick(s) are great. Monster's Inc game is lots of fun!

DS LOVES the new wireless controllers and so do I ....no knotted wires to untangle. He has been using the same set of batteries in the thing for 3 weeks now so it doesn't eat them very fast. They are well worth the extra cost!

Memory Card
Have at least 2 controllers
I got Mickey's Magic Mirror, SUper Mario Sunshine & Super Smash Bros Melee with mine...
Simpson's Road Rage is fun also..:)

I'm not sure that Simpson's Road Rage would be a good game for the 5-6 year olds.....it's a little on the PG side.

oops...
I meant to say that one was for adult play....;)
Just don't pick Bart if the little ones are around...:o

Thank you everyone for your ideas!! I think dh wants to get this as much as the kids.

I know someone said that animal crossing was not as fun as they thought it would be, and to me, a 34 yr old, it doesnt look great either, but my DS wanted it and bought it with his birthday money. I kid u not, he has played every day since he bought it weeks ago. and his friends love it too, they come over all the time and play thier towns that they created. It is the most loved game here at the moment.

Memory Cards are like 25 bucks for the 236 Page files so that shouldn't be a problem.

You get a 59 page one with the system and one controller.

Games for 5 year olds.

Luigi's Mansion
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Mario Sunshine
Animal Crossing
Any sports game (if there into that)
StarFox Adventures
StarWars RogueSquadron. (may be a little challenging for their age - your call)

I think that's a good start. Like was said before, better to rent before buying.

It was me! My 5yo does not know how to read yet so it is frustrating for her because AC has to be read in order to play. Now if we got far into it maybe she would "get it" w/o reading but to start off it kinda sucks for her.

BTW STAR FOX IS FUN. I am gonna say it is so far the best I've played so far on the cube.

Why do you need memory cards? Do you need one for each game you get?

No it's for games that take longer than a couple of hours to play.

You save those games onto the cards.

Usually you will need 1 for almost all your games and then 1 for each sports game you buy.

You can of course purchase larger ones and then save multiple things on one.

Most games take at most 10 pages of a memory card.
Sports games take up 59 pages (1 full card)

The one I am going to get holds 251 pages so I can save a lot more. This one costs 19.99 for the 251 page one

I agree w/ the other posters on SuperSmash Bros. Melee, SuperMario Sunshine and Luigi's mansion. DS(10) has hardly played Pikmin or Pacman and found the Mickey & Universal Games boring. Loves the others and 007, too.
Think about a Wavebird - the remote controller and two extra controller besides the one that comes with the unit.
So this is my added thought -

These disks for GC are not the indestructible type like N64. and your kids are very young. Be sure to get several of the plastic disk holders- sold separately - for extra protection of your new investment. They come in sets of 5 in different colors for like $5.99,

And enjoy!!!
