Game stop has a 50% trade bonus on games right now.

We have never traded at Game Stop before.

Help me figure this out.

So, I assume they have some system for determining what value is on each game in used condition???? It is a 25% of retail value or some other formula one can figure out before going in?

For DS games do they require the case and instructions? Do you get less without them? Do you get anything without them?

Thank you!

you get very little for games or anything as a trade in. you will do better at a yard sale or on craigslist. I was in there once and a guy wanted to trade in his PlayStation 3, they offered him $80. A woman was in another store near me and wanted to return/trade in a game that her son bought the week prior for $19.95. they offered her $2.00. She was floored. gas wise, it's cheaper for me to keep the games my kids don't play and maybe they'll play them again someday.

Thank you! I figured as much.

Right now they have a deal to give you 50% extra for games and if you turn in 7 games you get an additional 30%.

So, if they give $2 for a game, that means an addtional $1.60 per game.

Yeah, not worth the gas to get there.

If you get the games you want to trade in together right now, you can call your local game stop and ask them the trade in value for those games!

Really? Oh, that would be helpful. Thanks,

Dawn

It depends on the games. My DF trades used games all the time there. Older games will not get as much as the newer games. Like a PP said you may only get a few dollars for some games. A game that has been out a few weeks will get you more than a game that you have had for 3-4 years. You can take them all in and ask them how much you could get and then decide if you want to trade them or not.

This isn't necessarily true, but its a good rule of thumb. For instance, if you traded in a game like Twilight Princess on the wii, you'd probably get $20.00 for it, and its been out since the wii came out. But at my store we had people bringing in NBA2k11 a few days after those games came out and they got much less because those games devalued very quickly.

It all depends on the demand of the game. You will get something, as long as the game is on a system they will buy back, but you might not get much if you're trading in games like Madden 2005. When you get $2.00 for your six year old Madden NFL game that is gamestop saying, "Hey, let me give you two dollars for us to hold on to this game for the rest of eternity!" That game will NEVER ever sell again.

Also, you get more credit if you exchange your games for instore credit, and not cash!

Something else you can do, if you don't like talking to people on the phone (I personally don't usually, it can be time consuming and frustrating) is check their web site for what they're selling the games for used. As a rule of thumb, you'll get as trade-in 20-50% of that. 50% for very recent releases, 20% for much older titles, everything else somewhere in between. This isn't a hard and fast rule, but will give you a pretty good estimate.

I agree that with any of the sports games that come out every year - like Madden or NCAA - I think my DS12 was offered less than $1 for these.

His best trade-in was the ds game Pokemon (either Platinum or Diamond - can't remember) - he got $10 for that and was satisfied with that.

Just FYI, Amazon takes used games as well. They pay for the shipping and everything. It's super easy. So check the prices there as well.

My theory is if we can trade in 10 games for $50 and get a new game, that's 9 games less clutter in my house, and one game that's getting played is better than 10 that aren't.

And yeah, get the store credit, it's higher.

If you plan to do a lot of trading and buying at GameStop, you can purchase their PowerUp (?) card for $15 -- you'll get extra on every game you trade in, and 10% off on any used game you buy. They also offer special deals for PowerUp members for tradeins, and you'll get Game Informer magazine for a year. My son is big on buying games, playing them and then trading them in, so it works out for him. I agree, they really pay very little for tradeins, but you figure you've played them for quite a while -- you didn't buy them as an investment.

Gamestop generally offers 50% for what they sell used.

Often times, a game that is retailed at 19.99 (greatest hits/platinum edition), means that the game sold so many millions within the first year of release. So they knock it down to $20 because it's supposedly a great game that every one should have. Well pretty much every one will have it, and eventually want to get rid of it.

Sports games do not hold a value after the first three months, and you probably won't get more than a quarter for sports games 3 or more years older. Last year's game might give you $1-3.

Your popular, every one has to get it the day it comes out, but doesn't want it after a month, like Halo or Socom series, they're worth a dime a dozen. There's a ton of them out there.

There are certain genres that do hold their value, and you will get more, but you're still only going to get 50% of what they sell it for. Fighting games like King of Fighters, Street Fighters, Capcom vs SNK. Role Playing like some of the Final Fanatsy, Phantasy Star, Kingdom Hearts. And certain adventure games like ICO and Pokemon can bring in more than a couple bucks.

Games do not have to have the books/manuals or cases to be traded in. There's no difference in price whether you have it all or not. The games do have to appear to be in good condition, and playable. Labels must be intact on all cartridge games (like DS games).

Anytime you take in an offer, you must take the store credit. They do not give you a bonus if you take the cash, and cash is about 20% less than what they offer in credit.

Thank you all.

I ended up listing all of them on my local Mom's group and have already sold 5 of them in about an hour!

I got a bit more than Amazon was offering for them too and I don't have to ship them off.

I will see if I can sell them all that way.

Think more of it as the price you pay per hour of entertainment. Almost all games now will tell you how many hours you have logged. Play 30 hrs on a $10 game, that's 30 cents an hour of play. Was it worth 30 cents for an hour of your time. Of course there's other games too that can log closer to a hundred hours or more, whether it's an RPG or an online versus game.
