Game of Thrones-How old should you be to watch it?

I say it depends on your sons maturity...at 16 you have some that have less jello for brains than others if ya know what I mean . My 19 year old watched it but was to embarrassed to watch it with me...thats how graphic parts of it is...mostly in the first season. My 16 year old had no interest in watching it...but if he did I would have let him but I would also explain to him what to expect.

G.O.T is an awesome watch......you know your son best....just dont let him watch it with a girl

Thanks for all of the replies. We still aren't sure what we are going to do. He is starting with a new tactic. He has to have his wisdom teeth out next week, and he keeps saying watching Game of Thrones will help take his mind off the pain he knows he will be in. Yeah, I am sure that will make the tooth pain go away.

He also is saying we are not getting our money's worth on the DVDs we own since only my husband has watched the show. He is just looking out for us

I would have let DS watch it at that age but we are pretty easy going about such things around here. He's 20 now and loves the show. He's always bugging me to give it a try but I'm a little leery of it.

I watched all kinds of R-rated stuff when I was a teen and honestly, some things I wish I hadn't at that age, especially with adults in the room. Games of Thrones is full on soft porn in my opinion. The sex scenes make "Skin-imax" movies look tame.

I don't know the show but I'd rather be aware of what my teen is watching and have an open discussion about it than have him/her watching it at a friend's house behind my back. OP, if your son is aware of the show he's he's likely either watched it at a friend's or heard every detail from friends.

I admit I am not familiar with Game of Thorns, but I DO have a 16 year old, and a 14 year old, and cannot imagine restricting their TV viewing.

I think it is very possible that the person you quoted will not change her mind as her child grow.

ETA--I might want to talk about the stuff, actually I probably would ESPECIALLY since this show seems to include a lot of violence and mixing up violence into sex. And, after a few talks, it is quite possible I might "restrict" the viewing in a "I don't like it, don't watch it when I am in the room" but that is not really the same as saying "don't watch it at all--or sneak around with it" It just means it either annoys or unsettles ME and I do not want to see it. I had that same restriction about Rugrats and Spongebob once upon a time too.

I wouldn't let any teen watch it. My husband doesn't even watch it anymore because in our home, porn is equal to adultery and he watched the first season (he loved the books) and I felt very uncomfortable. I told him so and he has since stopped watching anything with nudity or sex in it. And the sex in that show is soft core porn. No doubt.

So, watching GoT = adultery? Hmm.

1. It is adult content. There is explicit sex and violence.

2. I personally don't believe in censoring what children watch. My rule is, they can watch whatever I or another adult is watching with them.

3. My 8 month old watched Game of Thrones with us. I'm guessing the content went a bit over her head.

I wouldnt consider the stuff in GoT as porn. Soft porn is what HBO shows in those after midnight series.....not that I have watched them....

She's 13. And I don't restrict what she watches now. She doesn't watch GOT, but it's because she isn't comfortable with it.

We don't have HBO (way too cheap!), but DS16 and I watched a couple of episodes on a free weekend and loved it. I immediately went out and bought an HDMI connector for my Nook so that we could use the TV to watch eps from Nook Video. He has more free time than I do, so he's way ahead of me in the binge-watching stakes, LOL.

I dont' have any issue with him watching it at 16. However, it is rather funny when we watch it together and the sex scenes start -- he has a tendency to find some reason to go the head or get a snack right then. (If you're a 16 yo boy, watching sex scenes with your Mom is definitely kind of squicky!)
