Game Boy Advance SP - Do they still sell them?

My son is 8 and wants a Gameboy Advance SP. He knows he cannot afford a DS Lite, so he's aiming for the SP model. Are these still readily available in stores? I am trying to convince him that he should get a cheaper one on Ebay - he's 8 and cannot understand that if he's going to pay $60 plus shipping for one on Ebay, he may as well buy a new one in the store - but do they still sell them? Are the ones on Ebay going to last? We've bought games off Ebay before and didn't have any problems, but I'd hate for him to lose all his savings on a lemon. :cutie:

Yes, the Gameboy SP is still in production and very popular with the younger kids. At DS's school, the Kindergarteners and First Graders all have SPs and the Fourth and Fifth Graders all have DSs.

They are still in production of new games for the SP too, which is nice.

The Gameboy SP costs $79.99 new (available everywhere... Walmart, Target, etc..). Games cost start around $9.99 (for older releases) and go up to about $29.99 (for newer releases). The SP doesn't go on sale very often (maybe Black Friday), but I've found a lot of variation on prices for the games. Circuit City and KBtoys have some pretty reasonable prices on the older releases. DS5's favorite game right now is Super Mario World 2, which I got on sale at Circuit City for $9.99.

Yes, they still sell them, and they're still coming out with new games too. We have 2 Gameboy Advance SPs and 1 DS lite. We got the SPs for the kids for Christmas the first year they came out, and we've never had any trouble with either of them. DH got me the DS lite for Christmas this past year. I do like it better, but I liked the SPs just fine before I got it, too.

The SP is running around $80 in stores right now.

They never go on sale, but you can occasionally get a good deal on bundles. You end up with free games or accessories. All video game systems are wierd like that it seems.

I got my son's for $49 on black friday, but that's the only time I've seen them on sale. I'm looking for another one for my second child now and I think we will be waiting until black friday for that purchase.

I've seen used SPs at Gamestop. I'd want to look over a used game very carefully, but I suspect they're in good shape but had belonged to kids who've "traded up". Since I wasn't actually in the market for them, I don't know how much they go for.

My kids have SP's and like the other poster wants to "trade up" to the DS model.

Its a shame because Gamestop offers a pittance (like $20 or less) and we haven't had luck on Ebay, or Craigslist.

DD7 just upgraded to a DS Lite. She has a blue Gameboy Advance SP with charger and hard carrying case she's willing to part with if anyone's interested in buying it from us. I can send pics if anyone's interested. Just PM me! (I don't sell on Ebay, but I have a 100% buyer feedback on Ebay. I can send you my user name as well.)

Awww...I just sold DD's red SP on Ebay for nothing practically. I've seen a lot of them on Ebay.
