Port of Galveston Shares Details on the Reopening of Disney Cruise Line Including Capacity Limits and Arrival Windows

Many sectors of the Walt Disney Company have had to contend with major business interruptions due to the global health crisis.
A very high profile impact was on the Disney Cruise Line in particular. Sailings have been canceled and moved since January of this year and Disney Cruises are currently suspended through the end of October. Now, through the Port of Galveston, we have some idea of what Disney is thinking about health protocols when it comes to the return of cruises.

At the recent Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves meeting, the Port Director Rodger Rees spoke about the discussions he has had with Disney about the return of the Disney Cruise Line in the future. He noted that they are evaluating social distancing, capacity limitations, and enforced arrival times.

Specifically, he noted that Disney Cruise Line is planning on starting sailings at 70% capacity, potentially to balance the safety and profitability of the cruise model. On the ships and in the terminals, Rees noted that social distancing and limited interaction will be a focus. Disney even mentioned using fresh air instead of recirculating the air in the terminal air conditioning systems.
Speaking of the terminal, Rees also noted that Disney is looking at having a cap on the number of people allowed in the terminal at a time, specifically by enforcing the embarkation arrival times for different groups. This may mean that departures are later in the day to accommodate a slower boarding process.

As of now, it is unclear when the Disney Cruises will return, though there are some slated for November at this time.

OK this actually has quite a bit of information in it. So my thought of 30% or 50% capacity was far-fetched for restarting but 70% looks like where they would start.
No real discussion on what would happen on the ship. But a expanded arrival time with maybe more online check-in functions? Maybe we will have to send in a current picture online now? But if they’re going to space it out that must be taking into account adding a testing component???
Does anyone have knowledge about how many of the Disney cruises leave the dock at 70% capacity or less over a years time?

Magic and wonder from 2700 people to 1890 people. 875 rooms to 612 cabins available. You could exclude all of deck one and all but about 15 rooms of deck two.

So Dream and fantasy have 4000 people would go down to 2800. 1250 rooms down to 875(what was a full Magic class) Which if you eliminated categories 9, 10, and 11 For those ships would handle that number of rooms.

Yeah, I'm relieved to have some information. It's a shame it wasn't DCL that released it. Still, I'm glad to hear they are implementing a limit on capacity and new cleaning procedures because that means they are planning on sailing again sooner then later

The best part is that it is galveston, which the Wonder is only scheduled to be at from November to January. So that bodes well for things starting up soon!
