Galveston hotels after cruise

Any recommendations for a hotel in Galveston post cruise. We will have all day after we debark the ship and we are not flying out of Hobby until 8:00 the next night so we would have most of the following day to spend in Galveston. I was seeing a lot of very mixed reviews on line for most of the hotels. We just booked on Sunday for a cruise next month, so scrambling a little to finalize this. Was looking at the Marriott Courtyard, but it seams out of the way from everything. How easy is it to get a taxi or should we try and rent a car for the day to get around?

I would recommend the Hotel Galvez. It's right on the main road and walking distance to quite a bit, including the beach.

Hotel Galvez or San Luis Resort both great choices within walking distance to everything.

Another vote for San Luis. Swim up bar is sweet. Very nice resort.

I'd like to stay at Harbor House sometime but I'm partial. Ate at Olympia Grill (in bottom of the hotel) and really enjoyed it. Had Willie G's on Saturday, too, and it was also very good. The Strand is nice to walk around. There's other little museums and things right there also. LA Kings on the Strand is great.

Gálvez is walkable to the Pleasure Pier. We like that Bubba Gumps location better than the one in Kemah at the Boardwalk. Gálvez is historic & pretty. I would stay there.

I've never had any interest in San Luis. I dunno. Just never appealed.

We've stayed at the Hilton at San Luis on the other side of Rainforest Cafe & Landrys. Eaten at both those restaurants & enjoyed but it's been several years back.

For convenience to things to do I'd probly go with Harbor House, Gálvez, or maybe Tremont.
