I just completed my first 2013 WDW Marathon Training run!!!!!

History of me? I am a 38 year old married mother of DS11. I started running last May as a way to shake up my workouts. I liked it! I knew I immediately had to set some goals. And my golden carrot, big time goal, was the WDW marathon. Just so happens that this is the 20th anniversary, how cool is that?!?!?!? So, several 5ks, a 2 miler, a 5 miler, and a 10k under my belt, I begin my journey tonight. It is time to go to work!

I have gone over several training plans, looking at what will fit into my life, and work for my goals (mainly to finish. safely away from the sweeper bus, but no crazy ideas of goal times) I settled on the Galloway plan. It gives me PLENTY of time to work slowly up to the distance. I feel it will also give me a cushion in case of illness or injury (there will be no injury:wizard: ) . So, I will have short runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, walks on Fridays, and long runs on Sundays. I won't feel guilty for walk breaks, and for every bad run, I will have 2 better. Definitely in a honeymoon phase now, but my heart is dedicated to this, and I will do everything in my power to conquer this goal.

So, who's with me? Anyone start tonight? Anyone gonna catch up? Here's a link to the training schedule

I welcome anyone to join me here and share your stories!

I'm training for my first marathon too. I actually am not only doing the marathon for the first time but Goofy as well. I must be crazy.

I have done 5 halfs and will do 3 more before the end of the year. Each half I do gets easier and easier and I don't feel worn out until much later in the race.

I am doing the Galloway Goofy method posted on the runDisney site. I think as long as you stay committed to the training you will finish and do well. I must admit the distance seems very daunting - especially since I just finished a 7.5 mile run this past weekend and thought if it was race day I'd have 19 to go :faint: !!

It's not crazy to be Goofy!!! Good for you! I will be doing today's run at the gym. Tuesday was 80 and like 90% humidity. I don't want to do that. A/C and 10 laps per mile it is! Sunday's "long run" this first week is just 3 miles, and it should be low 70's in the morning. I'll pound the pavement for that one. I am committed to this, and will not let my training go. I will run my first half the first weekend in October. It actually falls perfectly in line with the training!

Run safe, see ya on the boards!

Hello and congrats to both of you!! :cheer2:

I am doing Goofy as well in 2013. This will be my second one - first was in 2010 and I'd really like a chance to do it and not freeze solid. ;)

This is my first time using the Galloway plan. Picked it to allow me more time and it fits in better with other things I have going on. I did modify it though to not have the 26 mile training runs which also involved me taking a week out so I start on Tuesday. Actually looking forward to getting started.
