So i hope i posted this is the write place...

i had my gallbladder out Nov 18 2009 i still am having a few issues here and there . We're going to Disney Sept 6th, I hope ill be 100% by then but they said it might be a year to recover. I'm just worried about the food I'm going to eat. I think alot of this is in my head i still have four months but when i first got sick they didn't know it was my gallbladder they thought i had some rare stomach thing and i became reallllllllllly really depressed. I became a hermit and was scared to even leave the house. (Ever had food poisoning? I felt like that for 5 months straight! sept-feb)

ahh i hope everything will be okay, i have pill so i dont get sick to my stomach but im worried about potty breaks!

I will try my best to get good on the Disney dining plan, but has anyone else has there gallbladder out then went to Disney?

I am not sure what your question is? :confused3

Disney is known for accommodating all sorts of dietary requests. Are you concerned about not being able to eat certain foods on the DP, or a different amount, or needing foods you won't find, or something else?

i guess my question is if anyone has had there gallbladder out and he issues eating Disney food? If i eat to much fat my stomach gets all weird.

Having had my gallbladder out, and having some digestive issues afterwards, I can tell you that a high-fiber diet works wonders. Lots of fruits and veggies, and a high-fiber cereal, and you'll feel much better. It's a shame your docs didn't tell you that, my surgeon told me about the high fiber diet and the problem was corrected within two weeks after my surgery. That was five years ago, and as long as I have a decent amount of fiber in my diet, I can eat anything.

But, to answer your question about Disney food....it's no different than restaurant food anywhere else? If you have trouble digesting fat, then just don't order fatty foods. There is an incredible variety of food at WDW, and there are low-fat options at virtually every TS and CS restaurant.

Lost my gall bladder in October '07, never had an issue. My doc told me to keep to a low-fat diet.

Went to Disney in November '08. No issues. PP is correct. It's like eating at any restaurant at home.

Good luck on your trip and try not to worry. Keep to your good diet habits and WDW will be as fabulous as always

I had my gallbladder out at 16, got married at 18, and my husband has his out at 19 (it was contagious :lmao:).

Now, over five years later for both of us, we eat whatever we want. We can have the occasional McDonalds and we eat pizza all the time (not Krispy Kremes, though...I don't know why they don't work for us...). Anyway, I'm not speaking about Disney, but I *am* speaking about life. It gets better. I promise, it does!!

Well i am trying to eat high fiber and i am currently doing Weight Watchers. i still occasionally still have trouble with mild nausea.

thanks for all the responses! :cheer2:

I had my gallbladder removed over 15 years ago. If I eat too much greasy/fatty foods I still have a little bit of digestive upset but nothing that would cause me to not enjoy my Disney dining. I've also learned to carry Immodium for those times when I eat something that does set me off (like Pizza Hut). My dd25 had hers removed a few years back and she has no problems whatsoever.

If you are afraid you will not be able to finish the meals, would you consider going without the dining plan?

If you can't consider that, then there's no requirement that you must eat all the food that you are entitled to receive on the dining plan.

According to the ticker you are getting the plan free, so there isn't even any concern about wasting money if it's necessary for you to skip some meals and maybe not use all your credits.

ha so funny story. i am 22 and from march of 2007 - may of 2007 i lost 25 pounds doing weight watchers point system with high fiber and all that. we went to disney mid may of 2007 and i decided to splurge and eat whatever i really wanted as we had the dining plan and i was so pround of losing 25 pounds. little did i know, but i started having gall bladder attacks in disney from the change in diet (from bad-->good-->bad) so rapidly and my boyfriend didnt believe that i was in pain...he just thought i wasnt enjoying our trip and making up that i didnt feel well. (haha get real because i <3 Disney) they equate gall stones to kidney stones...and i will tell u i couldnt sit, stand, lay, walk, literally anything without feeling like i was dying... well when we returned i was in the hospital within a week getting mine removed...

good news is, though, nothing bothers me at all now...went to disney in january of 2008 and was fine with the dining plan not really watching what i ate...

we are leaving to go again in just 15 days and have the dining plan and i have no worries.

no problems since it was removed...

I had my gallbladder out in Sept 2007 and have had horrible digestive issues ever since (running to the bathroom with 30 mins of eating). With that being said my DH and I have done the deluxe plan twice before and will be doing it again in 10 days. Here is what works for me: I chew 2 Benefiber chewables in the morning before breakfest, I chew 1 chewable Pepto as I am ordering lunch and then 1 Immodium 30 minutes before dinner. I ONLY do this in Disney so that I am not running to the bathroom as it can be very embarassing. My Dr has stated this is okay for 1 week but not long term as she is still working on finding a permanent solution.

I had mine out when I was 20, I'm now 29. I've never had issues eating anything really besides being cautious of too much fatty food. I overall don't find most of the food Disney offers being extremely high in fat or fried (I avoid most of these foods). Steaks, chicken, etc don't give me any issues.

My first trip to WDW (land and sea pkg)1999- had been ill for months, was told my liver numbers were way off, no ulcer, maybe it was IBS or? I actually lost weight after that trip. I couldn't eat the great food on the cruise etc. Got home, told DR. I wasen't leaving until they gave me some new tests because I was tierd of feeling sick to my stomach all the time, did an ultra sound, and found a bad Gal Bladder. Had the surgery, and I was so much better. Never have had many issues since. Just avoid really fatty stuff. My stomach gets really hard if I eat fatty stuff, I guess your liver has to work harder.
I don't think you'll have any problems! Enjoy!
Were going back in Oct for the second trip since my surgery, DDP again, no worries. :goodvibes

Technically, the gall bladder stores bile that helps break down fat, as you have no more gall bladder, the bile is created more "on the fly" and has trouble keeping up with a lot of fat at once.

I think I get your concern. I had mine out and had problems for years afterwards. Actually, still do. I would make sure to have some motrin for pain (where your gallbladder used to be) and anti-diahreal incase you need it. My reasoning was always no matter what there is an abundance of bathrooms and if you are having a tough time, there is usually another bus or two in a bit after your stomach has calmed down. The best thing I can tell you is while I am on vacation, I am less stressed which allows my system to digest better. Make good choices also, but have fun.

thanks everyone for the in put, i guess i just worry so much because at first they didn't know what was wrong and i got SEVERAL depressed i was scared to leave the house, felt sick all the time. i guess it takes time to get my head out of the mind set.... i did have to cancel my Vegas trip last year from being so sick and they didn't know what was wrong, i lived off toast only toast for two weeks, it was the only thing i could bring my self to eat and sometimes i was so scared i didn't even want to eat that.

its getting better slowly and i can eat a lot of them i could before, im sure something will work out, we did get trip insurance just in case

I had my gallbladder out in April or 08. We went this past January for 8 days. I also had major issues the first few months after getting my gallbladder out (you know where the bathrooms are in EVERY place you go to!). However, I did NOT have issues in WDW--or if I did, they were minor. I'm not sure why (besides the magic), but I felt great. My dr. told me that the reason I had issues at first was b/c the bile has nowhere to go and so it builds up in your intenstines--then it has to go somewhere, right? LOL!
We didn't eat that great when we went either--I ate pretty much whatever I wanted.
I did get a prescription from my dr.--I can't remember the name of the medicine-you dissolve it under your tongue when you start to experience intestinal spasms--and those work great. If you want to know the name of it, just PM me and I'll check when I get home and let you know.

Also--remember that part of the problem could be due to anxiety and stress. Your mind can make your body do crazy things--and if you're worried all the time, digestive problems are more likely to happen.

Good luck and have fun!! I'm sure everything will be fine! :)

I had my gall bladder out In August of 08, and went to Disney in October. I too had some problems with having it out, and still do with certain foods. The best thing to do is create a food diary, to try to figure out what your "triggers" are. Mine are spice and rare beef. I figured this out, and avoided those foods while there.

I know that many people have issues with fatty or fried food when their gall bladders are taken out, but there are so many food options in the park that there was nothing to worry about. Using the dining plan would be a fine option as long as you can figure out what foods you have issues with. Like I said there are plenty of options whether you do CS or TS. :)

I just joined this site to respond to you. If everything runs right through you right after you eat, it is related to the bile dumping into your system all at once. You need to ask your doctor for a medication called Questran (cholestyramine). It is a powder that you mix in with water and take daily. It binds the intestinal bile acids and works well in this situation. Your physician can tell you if you are a good candidate for this medication based on your other medical history and medication history. You should not have to just keep waiting, hoping it will go away. Some people will experience this for the rest of their lives after their gall bladder is removed. If your surgeon if reluctant to use it, speak with your primary care physician. I have seen this work wonders for many people who have suffered for years after their gall bladder was removed. Good luck!!!

Had mine taken out in 1997. The only time I have a little trouble is if I eat something that is greasy (like really greasy) or fatty. It usually goes through me not long after I finish eating, but other than that, I'm fine. I do make sure to drink plenty of water, especially when I'm eating. I usually keep a roll of Rolaids with me just in case, but hardly have to use them.
