OMG!!!

We arrive on 9/28/19 and Galaxy's Edge appears to be opening the next day!!!!!! I thought it was going to be late Fall, not early fall. I tried to miss Free Dining and reserved the next week. UGH! I wanted to miss that as we do not care anything about being in that crowd. I know this is a big opening, but not sure if I need to try to move our trip to an earlier week. Will it just be HS that will be bad or everything...?

Already have a week booked at OKW...

The Variety article I just read says it's opening August 29. I wonder which one it will be.

Sorry guys I went back to what I saw the date on and it has been changed to 8/29/19. Guess I'm glad we will be a bit past that. I changed the thread title.

I know crowds are bad in October, but I was so trying to miss that opening...

We are there for Thanksgiving this year and questioned whether we would miss it....guess not. :)

August 29th and it is opening in Phases with RotR opening in a second phase at a later date. Interesting too they highlighted EMH in the article for WDW, I guess that is the only way resort guests are getting "guaranteed" access unlike DLR which has a reservation system for the first month.

Are you sure? I interpreted the announcement to mean only the Disneyland location was opening in phases. It's not all that clear to me. (Maybe I'm just confused & burnt out after all the various interpretations of Disney's Riviera documents, LOL).

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to Open May 31 at Disneyland Resort, August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Most are reporting (new organizations and the press release from Disney) that on opening day Smugglers Run is available. Though their interpolations could be wrong.

An section of the press release

"Set to open at Disneyland Resort on May 31 and at Walt Disney World Resort on
Aug. 29, Millennium Falcon : Smugglers Run , will take guests into the cockpit
of "the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy." They will take the controls of
the Falcon in one of three unique and critical roles as the ship hurtles
through space. Some will be pilots, some gunners and some flight engineers,
creating multiple ways for guests to experience the attraction.

Set to open later this year, Star Wars : Rise of the Resistance places guests
right in the middle of the Rebellion and gives them an active role in the
fight against the First Order, including a faceoff with Kylo Ren. Their
journey takes them inside a full-size starship and aboard a nearby Star
Destroyer."

That makes it sound like it is both parks the same.

Well, this stinks...we are arriving in mid-October and, although we knew crowds were going to be bad, we weren't planning for them to be THIS bad. UGH! This will probably be the final farewell trip for Grandpa and Grandma to WDW and my sister and her daughters have also been priced out, so this trip will be the last one for our extended family. We are staying 9 nights between AKV and BWV and we were hoping to miss the mayhem of SWGE. My nieces have never seen Fantasmic or Toy Story land and my youngest niece finally summoned the courage to ride ToT again. She is so excited that she is finally tall enough to ride ALL of the rides, "even the Rock and Roller Coaster!"...but now, I just don't think it's going to be worth it to even try to get in to the Studios. We have no interest AT ALL in Star Wars so there's nothing about it that intrigues us. We have a "planning meeting" this Saturday and this will definitely be a topic of discussion.

Could work in your favor - lower crowds at the other parks. Why not try for TSL FP+ for a weekday mid-afternoon (and not fight rope drop or evening crowds). I'm thinking theymay redo the tiers at DHS and allow TSM and/or Aliens to be tier 2. Good luck!

Some are now reporting that SW:GE will not have FastPass at opening. So I think the Tiers will remain the same for a while at DHS.

We have a 2 night pre-cruise/MNSSHP reservation in October. Was hoping to change resorts at 7 months. With this announcement, i'm doubting that I'll get a chance to switch.

Crazy excited for Galaxy's Edge (which we're going for in December), .but was hoping they would hold off on the announcement until next week. Lol. I'm betting the remaining rooms book fast now!

We are extremely excited for SWGE and have a BCV reservation for Sept 1-6. We were very happy to have gotten that at 7 months and even happier now that we don't have to mess around with transportation to HS as I'm sure we will end up spending a bunch of time there.

I think if anything it will cause more people to make HS a full day. Many people just go to HS for a 1/2 day but that will change. With that I think it might lessen the crowds a little at the other parks. So the once mobbed and popular areas of Pandora or TS land might actually be a little more manageable compared to how it currently is. I think if you work it right it shouldn't affect your trip or plans too much. You obviously were not planning on going to SW land (because it wasn't expected to be open) so continue with your plans as is. Hopefully they have some great plans for managing the crowd level in that land.

Thank you! We are going to stick with the week we have and hope for the best. I hope you are right and this will make the other parks a little lighter. My fav park is Epcot anyway and since F&W will be going on, I might just hang out there LOL

Trying to determine if this is good or bad news for my one night waitlist in October... :)

Honestly I'm ok with this the more I think about it. We love Star Wars and weren't planning to return until 2021 so now won't have to wait 2 years just to see the land. The extra crowds will suck but we were last there during Christmas so already know what real crazy looks like.

DH & I are at CCV for one night only Aug 31th after an Eastern on the Fantasy. I could care less about SW, but DH is a huge fan. Ugh, I hope they have evening EMH, because we won't be making AM EMH!

YEEESSSSSSSSS !!! BWV first week of December after all those Thanksgiving peeps check out !!! Knew to make that rez at the 11 month mark !!! See a lot of Star Wars H8ers here...Thanks Universal for making Disney step up its game !!!
