We're taking the ABD trip in Dec'11 and I wondered if the Hacienda is rural enough to consider malaria, typhoid and yellow fever immunizations. They are not needed for Quito or the Islands.

I'm wondering the same thing for our summer trip. Have you asked ABD? Their website refers you to CDC, but I'd love to hear from others who have done the trip, too.

tatafernow-are you booked on the Dec 20 Galapagos trip because that is the one we are booked on?!

I'm trying to see what immunizations people have gotten who have taken the trip. I inquired at the "ask a disney mom " site and they recommended copying the CDC page and taking it to a travel doctor, but it's not clear how rural the hacienda really is.

How exiting to find somebody who will be on the trip with us!

I have done a little research and it seems to me that even though we are not in a city we are not in a remote enough area where additional vaccines would be required. Also, on the ABD FAQ's they don't recommend any vaccines. That is my initial thought but I plan on looking into it a little further. Let me know what you learn as well. We did the Peru trip in July 2010 and stayed in a more rural area and never felt like we should have had any vaccines.

Who is in your travel party? Have you thought about when you plan on arriving and departing? We plan to arrive a day early and our departure date is still up for discussion - I figure we have plenty of time before we have to make those decisions!

We are going in June, and my travel doctor said we only need Hep A and tetanus vaccines for the places we will visit with Disney. Disney is not taking us to the rain forest or low-lying areas where the mosquitos are.

I didn't go with ABD but with another tour company since we wanted to spend more time on Galapagos (we were actually on the islands for 8 days) but did some off-track touring on our own on the mainland, we just had tetanus & Hep A.

Have a great trip - it's amazing and I'm still trying to decide which island or islet was my favorite :lmao:

Definitely the HepA and Tetanus, but it's looking like the others aren't necessary, I'll check with the local travel clinic too. The advisor at ABD when I called yesterday, said no one gets those shots but they recommend calling your doctor in case some one has an immune problem and might need them.
My girls will be glad they don't need extra shots.

We are four, 2 moms who adopted 2 girls from China; they are 16 and 14, they were 8mo and 1 yr when adopted. We belong to DVC and have had many trips to see Mickey, but we're ready to see the world now. Especially before they're off to college!

How cool! Enjoy!!!

Great! We look forward to seeing you in Ecuador and getting all the plans in place over the next several months!

I went on this ABD trip two years ago. I got the yellow fever shot, typhoid shot, and a hep A/B booster. No malaria pills. I travel a lot internationally and the yellow fever shot is good for 8(?) years, typhoid shot is good for 2, and hep A/B shot is good forever. Of course, I'm always up to date with tetnus and the rest (flu shot, etc.).

Talked briefly with the Infectious Disease Dr tonite ,he definitely recommended Hep A and Typhoid, no need for the Malaria because it's too high an altitude and the yellow fever is not necessary, also another Dr who had taken a similar trip recommended the same.
