Gaelic?

My 16 year old DD is in love with everything about Ireland. She would like to know if people still speak in Gaelic. I apologize if this is a really dumb question.

I spent some time in Cork this year and although you don't hear people in the street talking Gaelic, all the road signs are in Gaelic and English. There is also at least one TV station that is broadcast in Gaelic.

I gave up trying to pronounce some of the Gaelic words and place names - the spelling seems to bare no resemblance to the way the words are pronounced LOL Gaelic for Cork is "Corcach"

Gaelic is widely spoken in the West of Ireland but else where it is mainly English. In English speaking area's there is always at least one or two Irish speaking schools where the children are taught only in Irish.

All road signs are in both English and Irish although they have just passed a law that in Irish speaking areas the road signs are to be only in Irish
