How do you feel about the whole thing ?

I feel just like the capture of Hussain, I love they got the guy, but not feeling so good about the way either died

Exactly this. I just watched Nightline and it showed that he begged for mercy. Yes, I know he showed no mercy in his own actions, but it bothers me just the same.

Notice: I'm not debating anything, just stating how I feel.

I get a calm feeling each time one of the crazies is removed from leadership/control of a country in crisis. I particularly hated Gadhafi because of the Pan Am flight bombing. I knew someone on that plane. I do not relish the violent deaths of anyone. I am at peace though.

I was surprised at how I felt after watching the video of him begging for his life. I didn't feel quite as good as I thought.

I'm guessing you meant Bin Laden, because Hussain was captured, but not killed at the same time. He was tried in his country, and the law in his country handled it.

Honestly, I get that it's not what ppl. in ideal world would think was really 100% right. For the most part, I'd say I'm part of that group, but when it comes to ppl. like this; there's no doubt they've committed horribly disgusting things; I honestly couldn't careless. I'm glad they're gone; think the world's a better place without them, the end.

I wish they would stop showing awful images of him.

I do get that he caused all sorts of awful and horrific things, and I'm sure he "deserved" whatever it was that he got, and I'm sure that he understood that at some point in his last moments...but I still don't think those who weren't immediately involved with it need to see the images.

I will never feel joy or celebration in the taking of a life, for any reason. Regardless of the man's actions, how can treating him in just as evil a fashion as he treated those around him somehow make things better?

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that" - Martin Luther King, Jr.

I'm an aspiring pacifist, so I take no joy in anyone's demise. No doubt he was a tyrant and had done harm to many though.
One thing I could have done without were the images of his death.

OP could indeed mean Hussain. Yes, he was appropriately tried and punished under Iraqi law, but it squicked me out somewhat that they hung him. Not that I have any say in what execution methods they choose, but still.

i wonder if it is more difficult to "face death" when you've done some horrible things in life? i think i may worry about what's waiting "on the other side" if it were me. :scared1:

i guess we can agree that the fact that we have a sense of "not feeling good" (about the deaths of seemingly merciless people) to being a decent human? i really don't know very much about Moammar Gadhafi though.

and zippa, i had to smile when i read that you are an aspiring pacifist...very nice. :)

Just being true to myself... I suppose I will always have to add a qualifier because I am pretty edgy and violent (not physically) for a pacifist.

I'm very glad he's dead. Absolutely no doubt about that! He was evil to the core. But I really could have done without seeing his bloodied dead body on the front of newspapers yesterday when I was at the shop. Those papers were right next to the checkout and I was actually trying to block them so that my 7yo wouldn't see. The photos turned my stomach.

I haven't seen any of the videos you guys are talking about and I dont' wish to. Was he tortured? If he wasn't, he got off easier than he probably could have. I had read he was beaten then shot in the head- it could have been a lot worse and gone on for a lot longer- those people were very angry and frankly, he had it coming. I'm not happy, but I'm not troubled by his death either. Let's just hope that nobody worse takes his place.

I have seen the video. A couple of times actually and I did not feel one bit of sympathy or remorse for his death. He deserved a lot worse then what he got. He was a sadistic, evil, coward. Don't let his last minutes of begging fool you, he would of shot you in the face himself if you were standing in front of him.

Those who live by the sword, die by the sword.

Some times a "human being " looses his claim of being a human creature.

In this case this person did not even equal the title animal so yes he got what he deserved.

I guess it just sucked to be him. He could have given up months ago and may have walked away intact or at least have had a trial before they killed him, but he persisted and that's what his arrogance got him.

He got what he deserved, probably less than he deserved. It was a better death than the deaths he gave many people.
I could do without the images - like Deb I keep having to shield my children from them.

We've had a lot of this to think about the past couple of years with dictators/terrorist leaders dropping off and I'll admit that I'm a bit bipolar about them. On one side is the very human reaction of wanting someone who has done great evil to pay, and on the other is my conviction that it is not my job to administer a final judgement that ends in death. To me, that job is above my pay grade.

This action was carried out by the people who suffered most directly from this dictators deeds, so I really do understand why it went down the way it did. I also understand why other the other terrorists have been killed instead of captured.

I don't think that we should feel "good" when there is a death, even if the person's actions have been completely vile.

You are correct, they should have died like they killed their victims.
