Inspired by another GAD thread,

Will you continue to volunteer? If you didn't volunteer on a regular basis, or at all before has this inspired you?

Our family made blankets for foster kids, sick kids, etc. We are planning on making them monthly now. DS also wants to look into volunteering at cradles to crayons, as that was one of the GAD projects we considered. So, who else is going to continue with their volunteer work?

DNeph, DGrD and I loved doing the blankets for Project Linus. We will also continue making them throughout the year.:thumbsup2
We also want to try making pillow cases for ConKerr Cancer - once I get a sewing machine set up.

I have been making Project Linus blankets for several years and will continue to do so. They touch so many kids lives in a positive way! My area had few GAD opportunities so I was happy that Project Linus was part of it.

We did Project Linus as well and will continue to do so. Our son was in the hospital for a very minor head injury and the blankets they gave our son (and our daughter who was with us) are still well loved and giving comfort. It kept them both focused on something other than the ER and pain that night.

I hope we are doing the same for other kids buy making the blankets.

As the kids get older I'd like to also do more hands on work. Maybe Habitat or something along those lines.

We were looking for volunteer opportunities for my son's graduation requirements and found FRIENDS close to our home as part of the GAD. We have been doing volunteer work, but sporadically, but will probably do more so now. We really like this ranch and hope to be able to volunteer more often. :)

I have always adopted families for the holidays (bought gifts, clothing items, food, gas cards, etc). This experience has inspired me to do more throughout the year.

We volunteered for the Sleep Tight Foundation, they make up back packs (filled with items) for kids entering the foster care system. I have already started collecting items on sale/clearance for their next packing event which is planned for May.

My 6yr old niece loved helping out and can't wait to participate in their next event.

As I said in another post "Kudos to Disney for such a great promotion"

FYI: Your poll does not include an "I just volunteered to get the GAD ticket and don't plan to do more volunteering" option.

We volunteered with Indianapolis Animal Care & Control walking and playing with dogs that are up for adoption. We have decided we will continue to do so at least one four shift per month, and possibly more. We even helped out at an adoption event Sunday at our local PetSmart. The dog we were "in charge" of that day got adopted and went to a new home instead of back to the shelter! :thumbsup2 It is great because it is something the three of us can do together, we all enjoy it, and my hubby said the 2 hour training we went through and the 4 hour event on Sunday were totally worth it to see Zoey ("our" puppy for that day) go home with someone who will love her. :goodvibes

My daughter was talking about that kind of thing a few years back and I never looked into it. I need to get with it!

We've volunteered for years, but usually for one-shot or once a year kind of things. The yearly stuff more where there's someone in our lives to remind us or someone at the organization calls us up as the date approaches, because we're all space cadets and are prone to comments like, "Hey, don't we usually have a neighborhood clean-up in the spring?" around about July 4th. :p But now, enough neighbors know to either remind us or that there's usually someone here willing to help on short notice if they just knock on the door when it's happening that, unless we're out of town that day, we don't miss neighborhood stuff much any more.

Right now my middle daughter and I are trying to get to the place we did our GAD with once a week; never had such a regular commitment before so have to see how that goes. I know we're going to have to back out of it in the fall once her Nutcracker rehearsals get going but so far she's really into it and so we'll probably pick it up again after Christmas.

We already do volunteering but picked a Project Linus for the GAD since it was something everyone could do together at home (we rarely are home together for more than a few hours a week). I have more fleece so I'll probably make up more blankets until the fleece is gone but I'll be sticking with my regular volunteering as well. DH will be continuing his regular volunteering too.

It was a nice promotion but a shame that it is over before even 1/4 of the year is over. Maybe they should have released 250k tickets per quarter to spread it out a bit?

Project Linus knitter checking in :) I make afghans for our animal shelter as well, and will continue to do so regardless of the status of the GAD program (which I think was a nice program)>
