I just wanted to hopefully prevent someone else from messing up like I did. I went onto the site and started my account, found a place that was suitable for my DH and SIL and signed them up. All went well and I got my emails from both Disney and Habitat and then the blizzard hit us here in the panhandle of WV. No way to make it to our commitment. I went to the Habitat site and cancelled our commitment and rescheduled a new commitment (for today). Well guess what I forgot to do? I forgot to go back to the Disney website and change my commitment date there....ugh. I called and was on hold forever and finally hung up. The reason I knew I forgot was I got an email today saying DH missed his commitment and I was thinking, but I rescheduled it. I never thought of going back into the Hands On website and changing my info. I tried to go back this morning, but it was too late to add today as the commitment day. So since Hands on doesn't show that his commitment is today, I'm guessing we are out of luck to get a voucher. When my DH and SIL get home today, I'm going to be toast. It's an hour drive both ways to the Habit to do this (with still snowy and icy roads). While my DH can do another day, my SIL can not do another day easily as he is starting the police academy this Friday for the next 3 months and don't see how he will have any spare time. Wish me luck tonight when I try to tell them this....I feel sick as I put so much effort into doing all of the paperwork and all of the computer time and to forget one detail like this.

So if you don't make it to your commitment, remember to go back to your account and change your new commitment date there, not only at the service your choose!

YOu may be able to get this straightened out. I made a typo in my e-mail address and the people at GAD were able to fix it for me after my volunteer opportunity. They were very nice. Try calling again and speaking with someone.

Thanks for the words of encouragment. I'll give it a few days to see what happens.

I feel for you as we've been messed up due to the blizzard(s) too!! Our orig. event (a food bank) was cancelled & I kept getting emails that we missed it - but I was waiting to see if it would get rescheduled. The KidzCare group finally emailed me with a new date but DH cannot go on the new day (next Mon.) so I am looking into something else for him. I hope I have done it right. I had to go back thru the Hands On website to put in the new date for DS and myself. Then I went in & started another volunteer opportunity for DH but I haven't finished it yet & I'm not sure if it's actually seeing HIS name or mine again... He is going to make ribbons for a MADD group over in Loudon Co. - I am driving to Sterling this afternoon to pick up the materials for him as the person who has the stuff is only available from 3:30-6:00 and he's at work. <Sigh> Their volunteer coordinator told me to use the date that we return the finished ribbons as his volunteer date. So I am waiting to go back into the system until I know for sure WHICH DAY next week I will be able to drive back over there and return them - I hope Tues or Wed. In the meantime I am also still getting emails about him missing his event.:confused3 I still don't know if it will all work out or not. MEANWHILE, they are calling for a "wintry mix" again here for Monday so I hope the food bank for me & DS doesn't get cancelled AGAIN!!

The MADD thing on the website said the opportunity was to make 500-1,000 ribbons per person. The volunteer person said they normally only get 1 request to volunteer per month & this is a PT volunteer position for her. But she said they've been SOOO overwhelmed with requests they're now limiting the ribbons to only 250 PER FAMILY and she's spending 2 hours per DAY futzing with it!! This is another reason I am thinking that I will wait to fill in DH's date - JUST IN CASE our food bank DOES get cancelled again. If she's allowing the ribbons to be made PER FAMILY then I may have to change us all & maybe I can get credit for all of us.:confused3 We can each make some. It's certainly turned frustrating & I can't tell if I'm doing things right online or not since there's the individual organization websites AND the HON / GAD website. It's been very confusing with things not running as planned.

Good news! I got my vouchers today! My DH mentioned the goof up while doing his service on Tuesday and they said "they would take care of it." Well they did. They back dated the service to the orginal day it was suppose to be done (2/11) but the location was closed due to a blizzard. The service was done this week on 2/16. My account says the service was performed on the original day 2/11. All went well, it took 2 days from the day they did it to getting the vouchers. Perfect (with a lot of stress from me). I never had to call. I do have to say that the folks at the location knew all about the promotion and the coordinator was completely on the ball. Her emails were prompt and she did all of the leg work to coordinate with disney. Now, time to convince a few other family members to do it.

 Yay for you!

I drove over to Sterling yesterday to pick up the materials for DH to make ribbons for MADD. WHAT a disaster! I got SOOO freaking lost!! Mapquest said to take the toll road off the beltway which I did. But then it said to take exit 16 and the first exit out of the first toll booth was exit 15 and the exit numbers only went DOWN from there!! I was so frustrated. I've only ever gone out that way to go TO the airport, never used the toll road really before. So I got off (paying another toll) and asked the toll booth guy about the missing exit and he told me to get back on & keep going & to get off at exit 9B & he said that would take me to Rt. 7. So I did. Then I didn't know which direction to go when I got off 'cuz I didn't see any town names except for Leesburg. I didn't know I'd been dumped out PAST where I needed to go. So I went the WRONG WAY for quite awhile looking for someplace to stop & ask. Finally just asked someone else in traffic when we were stopped. First guy said he wasn't from there either.:sad2: The next victim I picked just said I was going the wrong way. So I turned around & drove until I got back to Dulles. I finally stumbled onto one of the roads on her directions & figured it out. But I was sooo turned around. Picked up the ribbons & decided to go home the back way as the beltway was a mess at this point with rush hour. :sad2: Took Rt 7 to Leesburg then picked up Rt 15 to take toward Frederick. Dead stopped after Leesburg. White's Ferry was closed and there was an accident somewhere shutting down 1 lane. :guilty: I was SOOO happy to hit Point of Rocks and to be able to hop onto Rt. 28 from there. All told it took me 3 hours to do this "errand" for DH. It was like about 33 miles going with the highways and 51 miles going home on backroads. :sad2: THANKFULLY she said I could just MAIL the completed ribbons back to her!! THAT was such a relief to hear.:woohoo: I have NO DESIRE to make that drive ever again!!!

Wow, that was a terrible ride. I'm terrible at directions, but my DH is excellent, so I leave it up to him. Before he retired from "Langley" we use to drive that route to and from work. Route 9 to Route 7, to headquarters and it has become so built up and so many lights now -- he likes to tell the story that when we started driving it in 1970 it was all farm land! Glad it worked out for you, but what a headache! Normally we just go over the mountain on route 9 to route 7 to the greenway to Dulles airport and that is the extent of our drive there.

:lmao: I told DH after THAT I am ready to break down & buy one of those Garmin things for the car that talks to you & gives you directions as you go.

Stress like that on a trip back from Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos finally prompted dh to buy a GPS unit. I didn't think they were worth it until that day. We were so lost and almost ended up in NYC! Since then we've used it in plenty of unfamiliar places, incl the drive to North Jersey for our GAD service last weekend. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Treat yourself.

lol! Sorry I didn't even see this post until after I posted! We love our Garmin. The female voice sounds very annoyed at me when she says 'recalculating'. Like a little sigh in her voice. So I put the British man's voice on and named him Nigel. He's my buddy and never sounds annoyed. :lmao:
